Nokia Bh800. By the way, I could not use it at all until I installed the beta 4.5 software.

Default Use G-Band only

T-Mobile Curve 8320
Scala 700 headset
Linksys WRT54G-TM

I had the same problem as others have posted here. I could not use my bluetooth headset with UMA calling. Call failed, disconnects, et. al.

I discovered this by accident. To improve the range of the Wi-Fi I set the Router to band G-Only. I left the 8320 as dual b/g band. Wa-La No more problems.

I am not a techie and will leave the technical debate and explanation to the wizards. All I know is that I can use my bluetooth headset with UMA now.

Only complaint I have had is that callers on the other end have said that I sound quieter while using the headset with UMA versus EDGE and to turn up the volume when using UMA.

I am using blackberry hand held version .180 and linksys firmware version v5.00.38, Nov. 30, 2007 if that helps.

Hope this Helps

Default Encryption off?

I had the same issue with one of my bluetooth devices. Whenever I tried to make a call, I would get the 'call failed' message.

I turned off 'Encryption' for the device, and I'm now able to make calls.

I'm having the exact same issues. I posted here where someone redirected me to this thread.

I've been going around and around with T-mobile about issues with UMA, but Friday I realized that the bluetooth being connected was the source of the problems. I verified this on my network (WRT54G-TM), a T-Mobile store hot spot, and at work (WRT54G). All places it worked fine with no headset connected and cannot make or receive calls with the headset connected.

I tried turning encryption off as suggested above but it did not help.

I only have one week left on my 30 day trial period of service with T-Mobile so I need to decide if this is going to be a deal breaker or not. My biggest need for UMA is at work where the T-Mobile GSM signal is too weak to penetrate the building. AT&T's signal comes in fine, however since AT&T stopped paying T-Mobile to use their tower, service at my apartment went so far downhill I can't use them any longer. T-Mobile's signal is much stronger, however in the back of my bedroom I often drop service.

I forgot to ask, what is the update from everyone? Has anyone found a bluetooth headset that works reliably? I currently have the Motorola H12 but I think I'm going to take it back because of volume and comfort issues.

Apparently it depends on model of your BT. It works with some and no with others

I can confirm that the Motorola H700 works while the Motorola H12 did not. The only problem is that the H700 is a piece of crap For $44 I'll see if I can use it while we resolve these issues. Thanks for the tip.

Note that the above was tested on .180 (the latest official T-Mobile version)

i have the same issues with my 8320 i just bought new from t-mo last week. call fail and reverts to edge with my jabra bt8040 headset. tried every conceivable setting and it still results in the same behaviour. sw version 4.2.2.180.

gonna go to my local t-mo store and see if they'll let me test other headsets to find one that works, start a case number, and contact RIM.

other than that, i love the phone. the bt headset works fine for A2DP listening and on edge... just UMA calls fail with it. it wont even connect a call.

has anyone had any luck with the Plantronics/Blackberry Discovery 655?

My Motorola H500 and SE PVH 700 are both are their last legs. And my H375 won't work with BB8820 and UMA.

What BT headsets are you using successfully with UMA and BB 8820?

I'm using an S9 and a Samsung WEP500. Both work with UMA. In early beta versions of 4.5 and OS 4.2, they didn't work.

Just to let everyone know, I have a Jawbone 2 with the same exact problem.

Version 4.5 fixed it.

I can't post links yet but Google "Orange UK" or "4.5" and you should be able to find it easily (I got it form pinstack.com)

He also aknowledged that the .180 software worsened the problem. If it was hardware or frequency, then software wouldn't make a difference.

Who would I call to add my name to the list??

I can make and receive calls, but they drop after about 10 minutes of perfect voice quality.

The problem continues unabated on my 8900 using OS .199 and a Motorola H15. Exact same issues as above. Two years, no cure?

I upgraded from a 8320 to a 8900 hoping this would improve, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

I'm able to use wum and bluetooth at the same time. I haven't had issues with that in quite some time.

I think these problems are either router settings related or bluetooth related. The wifi and headset are using similar frequencies so they if they are both broadcasting at the same time the signals can interfere which each other.

Things to try are checking for a router OS update, and if possible going to an alternative like dd-wrt. dd-wrt has a specific setting to reduce bluetooth and wifi conflicts;.
