Hi,

Just got my blackberry 8800 from cingular yesterday, I love it so far, except for the lack of blackberry maps?! Google maps fails to work on it. Why do I have a gps phone with no mapping app?!

Anyone have any idea of how to get this on my phone?

i got mine today from a cingi store in NYC and it has blackberry maps, check the list of applications in the options menu, it "has" to be there.

Blackberry Maps aren't preinstalled or is it necessary to download it during the initial provisioning?

Google Maps isn't GPS-enabled for Blackberry.

Blackberry Maps was not preinstalled on my 8800. It also doesn't appear in the setup process. Any thoughts.....

Strange that this isn't covered in a Quick Start guide.

As long as there isn't some pre-setup process to enable the gps radio prior to d/lingBB Maps, it likely just requires d/ling the BB Maps file and setting it up from there.

Google maps is not compatible with this unit... strange, but true.

Blackberry maps also not compatible with 8800... messed up, but true.

All I can think of is that BB disabled this feature for Cingular, so Cingular can make more money off of their customers by signing them up for the $10 a month plan to use GPS on their own software.

Interesting that some have it and some don't. Mine doesn't, unfortunately. GPS itself will give a coordinate on request, but there's no maps application.

If this is the case, shouldn't this have been covered during activation with a Cingular rep? (Yes, I realize that retail reps are the last to know, but ...)

Cingular reps know no more than to pull the SIM out of your existing phone and stick it in the new one. I never let them touch my new device. They are clueless.

Here is what I can add. BBMaps should be on their according to the manual. If not DL it from the BB mobile site. If Google doesn't work they have not yet created the version. Quite possible. Some vendors have told me that don't have what they need to compile the 8800 version yet. I am sure Google will get to it very soon.

What blows me off, and annoys me to death, is that BB Maps is not yet supported on the freaking 8800. So ridiculous!

I've tried OTA download, even web download and I get "Your device is not supported for BlackBerry Maps"

Can we say G A Y?

Which browswer did you try with these. Only one works, and I can't remember which one right now.

On the computer, I tried it with IE, and it detected my phone but said not compatible.

Mozilla just doesn't work due to ActiveX

On the phone I just used the default browser, BB Browser to go to www.blackberry.com/maps and it said the same thing, Phone Not Supported.

Any ideas? Better yet, solutions?

Check out the GPS thread on this forum in 8800. It's all there. URL loads BBMaps. Works fine. Improvements coming.
