Do they make exceptions for BlackBerry??

It will be an interesting trend and I hope it just isn't limited to Apple.

Smartphones seem to be the TV's/Computer's of older generations everyone will eventual have them. Of course we come Dependant on them.. which I am already guilty of.

I agree. You shouldn't be mandated to use a platform you may not like. Still it just shows the up coming importance in portable smart phones/devices in everyday life.

i just find it wrong thats its a school doing this, they are suppose to teach what is out their. not lock to a device.
unix/linux/osx/windows and all that should exists, even if its 1 lab, of each, just get a understanding of other systems. and how they work.

this was one problem i have when they also teach courses, its all windows based. which is very wrong, unix, osx and other system, you should also be taught how to use.

this is for people who are getting into the field. and as an educational institute it should be open to what else is out their. not lock it to 1 type, 1 platform.

while its good that they made it mandatory for financial aid, why not other devices?

but i'll end this now, since i think we might hit an off topic in this.

i still believe schools are bias and are in the stone ages when it comes to pc's and teaching about technology.

You guys bring up good points... To limit the students to an Apple device while the market has many other options for smart phones WinMo/BB/Palm..

Is pretty narrow minded.. and in the long run takes away from the students.

I know a lot of schools in up in the Tampa area deal with Apple for their computer needs so they probably just get them for a good deal.

The last sentence sums up the situation nicely, "Brooks admitted that students could just play back the lectures on their laptops, but he said few students do."

not sure i see the big deal. its not the whole University, its just the school of journalism. secondly its not a class to teach them about the devices, its all about playback and distribution of the lectures. I think its a bigger story if a whole university made it mandatory, as it is its not that big a move. And Apple has pushed institutional sales for 20+ years and to them I think this is a very small deal.

The headline is misleading anyway, its not mandatory at all.

They better for it if they require it lol.

School is very expensive these and with the requirement of having an expensive phone, they better be able to help out.

Still pretty weird... People need to have a more diverse knowledge base

I really want to what schools think they accomplishes... with such a rule..
