In addition to 1,000,000 iPhones sold in just a single weekend, Apple also sold and distributed 10,000,000 applications through the itunes store. Developers are no doubt very happy with the return and the interest.

the majority of 3G iPhone activations at the location I worked were upgrdes!!! many moving from the first iPhone to the new. There were a fair share of new lines of service as well but most were upgrades

that makes sense as the people who are rushing out to get them are really the die hard fans. The new people will tend to wait and not deal with lines or lack of inventory.

As for the numbers, you will never get a current user number for apple simply because they are not controlled like BB. So the best that you can do is look for sales / returns, however those numbers usually only come out in quarterly reports so we have to wait.

I agree Alex the App store has been big and the apps are still getting released every day. So far I'm using Pandora / AIM / twitterific / HoldEm alot. Pandora being the best one for me.

Interesting to see the "Old Phone" has a 6% move from a berry to the iPhone. I would love to see a model breakdown of that 6% (just curious, not to prove any point).

The move rate is very low from BlackBerry. Its about on par with last year. The most interesting figure for me would be the "New Features" reason for purchasing. 3G BlackBerry will almost have the same response i would guess.

Sith you are right about Moto getting hurt by the iphone. less this year but that might be because their are fewer Motos customers out there to convert, same with Palm.

Granted this survey needs to be taken very lightly. 283 people is anything but a scientific result out of over 1million.

Also a carrier breakdown would be very interesting. I would say AT&T wont notice that much of a boost in customers this time. Not anywhere close to what they saw last time.

While not a boost in customers, they will see a boost in rate fees as the 3G plan is $15 more then the old iphone rate plan. [assuming the 200 sms package]

PC World - iPhone 3G Torture Tests

just for the fun of it. it ends badly for the iphone 3G, but for normal use it holds up well.

Give it some time. People got tired/bored of the original Iphone and moved on. I can't see why the 3g Iphone won't follow the same path. In my opinion, blackberries are "THE" smartphones only worthy of being called smartphones, with exception to maybe Palms. They've been around for a loooong time and very very trustworthy as far as performance. I'd pick the push email of a BB over the safari browser anyday. Having an iphone browser is still not as productive as having your laptop. As a business-user, tethering is a HUGE plus for me and iphone can't even do that.

that's really not that big of a number considering if you compare it to last year 240k only 1 carrier vs what 22 countries launch and only 4x the original launch numbers? i do like how they omitted how wider the market is for the 3g phone. yet it took 2 days to get to 1 million.

Yep, verizon has the best service in my experiences. I will not switch to AT&T for the iphone, simply because it is too much of a hassle.
