Google maps and the new Beta Google Navigation work on my PB (gps included). They're a little buggy, but a good indicator of things to come.

If i select a destination that doesn't precisely match, it offers a list to select from, only the list is blank. So when selecting a destination you've got to be highly specific. Also the android player doesn't seem to be able to make use of my tether which is disappointing, but I'll bet it gets addressed.

Zombie, what are you using to display your icons in a grid? And I assume you cannot 'save' the home screen selection? Mine always defaults back to 'recent tasks'.

The app is called 'Smart Taskbar'(5th row, 2nd from the right) I use that app and Advanced Task Killer

Some apps are just not working with the app player yet. I do not know if it is an Android issue or a Playbook one.
It's all trial and error.

You can search on the forum to see which apps work and which do not.

What kind, if any, of errors are you getting? Is it just not working?

Do you see this on your screen (DDPB)?

If so, what happens after you try to install?

There is (or will soon be a working copy of Android Marketplace)no way to install an app directly from AMP, so for now, I do not know anyone who has installed apps that way. Some can download them, but the Playbook crashes when installation is attempted. I'll check out AMP to get a feel of the apps, and find out which are free. Then with the name of the app I will search some of the after market sites dedicated to Android. Download the .apk and install the only way I know how. I have about 3500 apps on my laptop, just installing 5-10 at a time and checking to see that they work. If you are looking for an a specific app, let me know, chances are I already have it. I could send you the .apk file.

Awesome directions ... got the Android Player working and make sure everyone downloads the JRE before they start. Follow the directions carefully and be patient with the process. USB process of installing works great for me.

No ideas, but I have noticed that after installing the Android Player, my battery life has gone straight to heck!!! Battery drains, unless I close the player and reboot the PB. I do not know why it does it yet.

Android apps run continuously in the background unless you force close them. I think that's on all Android devices and one reason the Android phones have poor battery life.

It (Android Player) destroys the battery even with all apps closed. I use Task Killer (Closes an app after minimizing) Except at the very beginning, I have never had more than two-three apps open at the same time. Since this version is sort of buggy, I expect them to have the power mngt issues fixed by the official release.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. The leaked player is really a great thing to have, to play with, or to show doubters. But it is different version even from the one demoed at BlackBerry World. Rim has insisted that Android apps will have to be re-packaged, and perhaps re-compiled with PlayBook specific tools. What we have now is a very good virtualization of Andoid for an early beta application. I'm happy to play with it and very happy to have it installed. But I would not be surprised if the official release is a very different experience from what we see here.

And yes, it is a battery killer, but on the plus side with it running my PB will keep my coffee warm.

Has anyone played with Lotus Notes Traveler for Android yet? It lets me connect, download & install, but when I go to configure, it tells me the traveler web server was not found (the standard 404 error). Considering I am connecting & downloading from the same web server I am trying to use for configuration, I'm chalking it up to the beta player. SIGH. (Traveler 8.5.2.3 - latest build to support Android Tablets).

Patience is a virtue..guess I'll hold out for native Email with everyone else

There is no "small person-like" icon next to the orientation lock. I am running OS 1.0.7 there is just the orientation lock, then bluetooh, the wifi, the battery, and the setup icon...

Please advise.

Thanks
