Unhappy No sync - really desperate

Please Login to Remove!

I hope this is the right place to post. I am new to BB Forums.

I own a 8800. I have never been able to sync (or back up) using desktop manager. I know this has been seen and heard before, and I have of course reinstalled desktop manager (not enterprise server) and on several computers. My BB is never discovered and I cannot sync to Outlook or backup.

Finally, T-Mobile have agreed that the handset is faulty (is it?) and are replacing it Monday. Problem: I traveled a lot over the last few months and ALL my contacts changes plus memo files are on the BB, not backed up. And of course, there is no option to export contacts and memos to eitherthe sim card (too small anyway) or the memory card (got a 2gig).

So unless I find a way before Monday, I lose all my data when the handset is exchanged.

Would you please advise me? Ths seems a common issue. Perhaps there are third party utilities which will aloow me to backup when desktop manager fails? And if this is not the best category to post in, please point me in the right direction.

I am really desperate.

Thanks a lot.

Chris

Welcome to the Forums.

There is no option to export all that info to your SIM card, because you couldn't, even if there was an option. The SIM card just can hold all that.

Do you get a charging indicator when plugged into the PC via the USB cable? If you do, at least that is good indicator.

Do you have the BB plugged into a USB directly to the PC, not a hub or monitor? Connect it directly.

Chris, honestly, I would try again. I would install DM ver 4.2 SP2, withOUT the media manager, and try again, and let us troubleshoot it here. Answer the questions above, and proceed.

Otherwise, no, I don't know a way.

Thank you so much.

I am just downloading 4.3. Should I ignore that version and go for 4.2 SP2?

Yes, I do get a charge indicator. And I have tried side and back USB ports.

I was hoping that there was a way, maybe, to do a backup to the meory card.

What version of Windows are you running on the PC?

Most of us here recommend 4.2 SP 2, especially if you are having an issue connecting.

1-Install the DM, reboot the PC.
2-Pull the battery on the BB while powered ON, hold 30 seconds, replace and reboot.
3-Connect the USB direct to the PC chassis connection., and to the BB. Make certain the charge indicator on the BB homescreen appears.
4-Open DM. Wait and let it "work" to find the BB, the PIN will appear in the bottom of the DM window.

Windows XP all updated.

Downloading 4.2 SP2 right now. Really slow speed on BB server but will report back when all set.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your help.

Yep, the BB download site is notoriously slow...

Well, after a crashed download and a couple of hours downloading again and tweaking...it works!

Thank you so much. This is brilliant. Basically, it was my 4.1 destop manager that just wasn't working with my 8800. Makes you wonder why T-Mobile ship an old version of the DM with new purchases and replacements.

Couldn't have done it without you though. I'm a fan and will stick around in the forums.
