I got GPRS working between the Pearl and the Nokia 770. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be but at least it did work.

I posted the details on another forum, rather than double/triple posting, I'll just give the URL for the informational post: Trouble Pairing my N770 to the T-Mobile Blackberry 8100 Pearl - Page 2 - Internet Tablet Talk Forums

I have this thread and that thread subscribed, so feel free to post in either place. The information in the previous post was key for me, but the nitty-gritty at this point is more in the realm of the 770 than the Pearl, so I'm moving my post to a spot where it may make more sense.

GPRS is the cell network technology. Do you mean you got Bluetooth working between the phones?

Yes, bluetooth DUN + GPRS so that the 770 is connected to the internet via the phone.

Unhappy

Unfortunately, the 8700 still doesn't appear to have the "dialup networking" stack even with the new 4.2... but with Pulse, it shows up.

I've spend all afternoon trying different variations of your script and the Mac script they have on the Pulse site.

Anyone get this thing working?

I've even got the gateway part setup.

It seems on the pearl, at least using it in XP, it is not supposed to have a DUN stack, but rather what recognizes as a serial interface (serial over bluetooth) that somewhat acts as a modem, but not really a device of itself, if that makes any sense.

Keep in mind, I am doing this on the 8100.

Hi rivviepop. As you told me I hit the main forum and followed the instructions on how to connect to the internet thruough blouetooth device using Blackberry 8100 (t-mobile).

I got exactly the same results as you did by running the commands 'hcitool scan' and 'sdptool browse'.

I downloaded and istalled wvdial and tried to check '/etc/wvdial.conf' (sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf) yet can't see '[Modem0] Modem = /dev/rfcomm0'.
How can I locate or create /dev/rfcomm0 ?

I had the same problem navigating to /dev/ttyACM0 when I'm tryin it with a USB cable. It doesn't exit in /dev/ .

Thank you for help!

I tried "ls /dev/rfcomm0" and it gave me the following output:

/dev/rfcomm0

So, everything works now. The only thing I need to know is what else should I configure/modify so that I can connect to the internet through BB 8100.

How do I BOUND Channel 1 to rfcomm? By the way, when I run "sdptool browse", I can't see Channel 1 anywhere. It starts from Channel 2.

sdptool browse 00:0F:86:F6:31:92

Thank you for your help guys! It's been about a week I started to use Linux. NEVER FELT IT NECESSARY TO LEARN ANYTHING AS MUCH AS LINUX MADE ME FEEL SO!

I tried "ls /dev/rfcomm0" and it gave me the following output:

/dev/rfcomm0

However, when I run "dmesg", I get the following

[ 36.272000] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.11
[ 36.272000] NET: Registered protocol family 31
[ 36.272000] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized

[ 36.400000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
[ 36.400000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.8

....so, as we can see, dmsg doesn't show that the device is located in /dev/rfcomm0

Is it because the modem part is intentionally unrevealed as rivviepopop already explained? As far as I'm concerned, there're those who already had succeeded with it.

another day of hard working desperately trying to make my BB 8100 act as a modem in Ubuntu 7.04...

$ dmesg still doesn't show that the device is located in /dev/rfcomm0

I found out how to bind channels to rfcomm by typing:

$ sudo rfcomm bind 00:0F:86:F6:31:92 channel 1

$ sudo rfcomm -a
rfcomm0: 0C:00:00:00:00:00 channel 1 clean

(but why istead of 00:0F:86:F6:31:92, rfcomm0 shows 0C:00:00:00:00:00 ?) Is it supposed to be clean? what should I do next?

Well, when I tried channel 4 and channel 5,
$ sudo rfcomm bind 00:0F:86:F6:31:92 channel 4
it retuns this: Can't create device: Address already in use

I'm not sure if I bound channel 1 to rfcomm correctly but anyway I tried wvdial

~$ wvdial
--> Ignoring malformed input line: "Baud 460800"
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.56
--> Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Host is down
--> Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Host is down
--> Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: Host is down

I think I didn't bind the channel(s) with rfcomm in a proper way and then didn't configure wvdial properly either.

Guys please help me !

.....still gettin the same results. can't figure out why it doesn't bind the device with channel 1.

$ sudo rfcomm bind 00:0F:86:F6:31:92 channel 1

$ sudo rfcomm -a
rfcomm0: 0C:00:00:00:00:00 channel 1 clean

and here is the result of mt guess work:

$ sudo rfcomm connect 00:0F:86:F6:31:92 rfcomm0
Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Operation now in progress

few seconds later:

$ sudo rfcomm connect 00:0F:86:F6:31:92 rfcomm0
Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Device or resource busy

I also have a 8700g. The error message I get when I look in /var/log/messages is

It seems that it is attempting to communicate and after about 30 seconds
on the dialup modem gui there is: Activation error 7

I get the following responses to the corresponding commands

[root@dhcppc0 stratos]# rfcomm bind 00:1C:CC:35:8C:05 channel 4

I also check the existense of the device, namely
$ls /dev/rfcomm0
and I see the device highlighted.

The content of my wvdial.conf is
[Modem0]
Modem = /dev/rfcomm0
Baud = 115200

FlowControl = CRTSCTS
[Dialer T_mobile]

Init3 = at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

Has anyone been successful with the 8700g? I would appreciate
your help.

Unhappy nearly connected, but the number dialed is wrong!

I have my Ubuntu laptop connecting to the phone and making the call, but the number that chat sends to the modem is always prefixed with an 8!!

in my connect script I have

'' ATZ
'' ATDT*99#\n

I tried waiting for 'OK' but that just hangs; the 8100 must respond with some other code for ATZ, but '' should work, and I do see the phone attempt to make a call, only it complains that there is extra junk in the command, and it tries to call

8*99#

if I leave the \n off of the dial string, it tries to call 8*99

what could be going on here?
