Backed up phone and 3rd party apps.
Deleted old Operating System on phone(4.7.0.75).
Installed 4.7.0.83 on computer (Vendor.xml was left alone since I am with Verizon).
Launched BlackBerry Desktop Manager and ran Application Loader.
Installed new OS, backed up files, 3rd party apps.
Registered again via Host Routing Table.
Did a battery pull.

The whole process took about 45 minutes to an hour. What I am noticing now is the phone has more free memory, camera is faster, switching from landscape to portrait is slightly faster, web browsing is slightly faster, speed dial number tones have been put in, Application Center has a new icon and putting your phone down on the surface will not switch your phone to landscape mode.

Phone has been running for over 24 hours without a battery pull and it has been used/abused in that course. Free memory available is 48 MB. Previously it would be 29 MB.

What is missing now is you can not switch to Vibrate mode by pressing and holding the mute key while your phone is locked.

Overall, I am loving this OS. I can't wait fro the official release.

Did you wipe your phone before doing this update? It seems that the people I have come across that have had a negative experience with this update are installing it on top of .65/.75.

***CAUTION: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART***
Before proceeding, make sure you backup your phones contacts, calendar, email, etc.
Also backup your 3rd party apps.

I got my phone on Friday. I downloaded .83 on Friday. I charged it over night and started working on it Saturday morning. The phone came with .75 on it. I:

- installed .83 on my PC. I did NOT do anything with the vendor.xml.
- Ran Desktop Manager on my PC (I have 4.7 installed).
- connected phone to PC.
- DM detected newer OS version and installed it with no problems.
- I ran the Device Switch wizard in the Desktop Manager, which moved all my junk over from my Pearl 8130.
- I followed the directions that came in the box with my 9530 to activate the 9530 (with VZW). (call an 800 number, then do a *228, or whatever it is, on the 9530).
- My BES activation transferred over somewhere during all that with no hitches. I did not have to call MailStreet to do a new BES activation on the phone.

Since getting the phone activated and working, I have had to do a battery pull at least once a day, for various different reasons.

Today, after having my phone tethered to my laptop for about 2 hours, the screen got flaky. First, it was just showing everything shifted down about 1/4 inch and wrapped around the screen. Then, I picked it up and the screen was solid white with lots of tiny red and blue dots. I pressed one of the buttons and it dropped my Internet connection and restarted. It was extra weird because I was listening to streaming Internet radio on my laptop, so I know the Internet connection was continuous, right up until the phone restarted while I was holding it.

Reasons I have done a battery pull include:

- used SpeedDial 1 to access my VMail. It dialed in, then displayed Pausing for 3 seconds. Then it should have dialed my PIN automatically, but it never would. I tried numerous times, letting it sit at the dialog for as much as 30 seconds. I could hear the vmail auto-attendant saying "please enter your PIN, then press pound" over and over. After the batt-pull, it worked fine.

- dialed in, using phone tethered to laptop. Web pages were loading very slowly. Some wouldn't load at all - pausing and then eventually giving a 404. I disconnected, did a batt-pull, then re-connected after the phone was back up. Pages immediately were loading very quickly (much faster than with my Pearl - in the same location, i.e. my office), and all pages came up - no 404s.

- ran BerryTunes (I believe it was in Compatability Mode). When I tried to close it, it would display a confirmation dialog, but not let me click Yes. So, I had no way to actually close the app except to do a batt-pull. I turned off Compatability Mode for BerryTunes and it is useable now (though still much flakier than when I was using it on my Pearl).

.83 rocks...Almost as fast as the TV commercial...launches apps and rotates (seemingly) twice as fast as .75 or .76...Install was different than .75/76...had to do a reset and battery pull before it seemed to stabilize. But reboots seem to take longer.....

You should be able to adjust your keyboard settings to prevent this (I am not having this issue).

Me too. Running .83 since Thursday on Bell. Works great. Must faster changing screen modes. Also installed Vlingo. Works awesome. Still do not like the camera. Very slow to take a pic and the flash seems to take forever. Other than that i love the Storm.

I have had non-stop problems with this damn phone. It is a great phone and I love it, it just freezes up way too much no matter if I am on .75 or .83. I am going to call Verizon now and see what they say.

Been on .83 for 2 days now. Runs faster, but after 2 days pulled the battery for the first time(memory was at 12mb), just to free up memory but not due to any performance issues. I just need to remember that you now have to close out of applications to really close them battery life seems much better, transition between landscape and portrait is very snappy. keyboard still a little sluggish, but much improved.
