I am a user and fighting with our techies about making address book available while the BB is locked.

Our device allows to make outgoing calls while the BB7290 is locked but you have use either speed dial codes or dial the number which means in today's world memorize all the numbers.

I am sure that the creators have addressed this issue but our folks just refuse and say it cannot be done. They even had denied outgoing calls while locked, but when I challenged them with help of this forum they had no choice but to activate that capability.

You help will be highly appreciated.

I know of no way to do what you are describing, but that doesn't mean that someone here hasn't figured out a way to do it. The entire purpose of locking the BB is to prevent access to the information stored on the device, including the contact list. Having the address book available while the device is locked totally circumvents the entire purpose of it being locked in the first place.

If I might ask, what functionality would this provide if it were possible to do it?

I saw this as an option on my old 7520 4.0 OS, but its stated no where in BES Policies or available on BB OS 4.1 yet.....

This would be extremely helpful to have for all my units!

It is a security risk to allow access to the address book while the Handheld is locked, however I do believe this will show up as an option in the future.

You should be able to see your call log though and call the most recent numbers from there. Otherwise they will have to unlock. You can give them the security line because otherwise anyone can pick up the BlackBerry and have you contact list.

No can do, and you can't alt-esc either once on a call and it's locked. Sorry, bugs me too since I am on a 20 min timed lock via policy.
