Default 4G on Torch (AT&T)?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey,

So I get this email today from AT&T saying that they're finally getting into 4G and will have limited coverage around the country soon.

My question is, is the Torch now (or maybe can it be in a future OS upgrade) 4G compatitable?

Please someone say "...Yeah!"

That would be awesome.

Do a little research on it; it is a rebranding effort. 3G/4G - all market confusion.

The 9800 is AT&T 3G only. Can't make it 4G as it doesn't have the frequencies and the radio necessary. You will have to get a 4G compatible device.

When of course, AT&T has a 4G network...

Why do some of you guys have to respond with such a "holier than thou" tone?

You should understand that there are those who won't know as much as you do and asking questions in forums like this is their "research" despite your approval.

Why can't you just answer the question? And if its beneath you to do that then just ignore the post.

AT&T is rolling our their flavor of LTE, as is Verizon. Some have even mentioned that there might be some commonality between the two systems. But another source indicated that while Verizon was 4G, At&t was about 3.9G. Not sure if it was "dig" at AT&T or not. Time will tell, I guess.

No idea where I read it, but that AT&T's "4G" is merely comparable to HSPDA+ which I believe T-mobile US are already using.

I just want to make it clear that uncalled for response like yours make these forums a less desireable outlet for people to share ideas.

Have a nice day.

And T-Mo started calling their HSPDA+ "4G" first, which is why AT&T decided to do the same thing.

It's all BS. Most of them, LTE, HSPA+ (or HSPDA+... I wish they would decide on one acronym and stick with it) are all still within the 3G speed range.

Until they get to 100 mbit/s mobile (at the moment, they range from 6-20 mbit/s) and 1gbit/s fixed (which all of those are very far from), none of them are real 4G.

WiMAX is the only one that has the ability to reach that speed level, but I don't think they are there yet. And WiMAX's high frequency range makes it harder to penetrate deep within buildings.

What JoelDF speaks (or types) is the truth.
