Hi everyone, at work I've been handed 16 x 7290's and 4 x 8700f's to dispose of or find new use for. They are either old phones where users have had upgrades (7290's) or new phones that are unused as a result of staff leaving, redundancies etc.

The problem I have is on the 8700f handsets, users in the organisation are required to set a password when they receive their BB but now that these individuals have left the organisation we are stuck with handsets that are locked and we have no idea how to get into them.

Please can anyone advise? Maybe a master reset that will wipe everything off the handheld (including password)? Or is there a way using Desktop Manager that I can bypass the password and access the devices?

Enter the wrong password 10 times and it will automatically wipe.

Were these devices previously on BES?

I would imagine you don't care about wiping them out, so I would try that. I got around the password issue on my curve 8900 doing this. I hope it helps!

Download your carrier's OS (I assume you have)
Execute the file you just downloaded
Locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC located at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
Connect the BB and restart Desktop Manager
Desktop Manager may still not see the BB initially-that's ok.
Go to Application Loader and see if you can install the OS.

And NOTHING suggested here will get rid of a password if it is part of an IT Policy...

So, after you do reload the OS (with or without JL_CMDER) you may still have to remove the IT Policy in order to get rid of the password requirement.

Look in BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ for information on How To Remove an IT Policy.

I was forced to use that method to restore my 8700g after I got the 547 error, the password was still there after the full wipe

Yes, the password is not removed after a wipe.

Thanks. Just did this on an 8100, wiped it, then booted back up all good.
