Default Wifi Wifi Wifi Wifi Wifi

OK. So I connected my 8320 to my wireless network at home and it said it was connected successfully. It now says Orange (my network provider) and then the name of my wireless network on my home screen.

But, how do i now use the internet through wifi? how do i know i'm not just using Orange's internet (and therefore my data allowance...)? I turned off everything except wifi and it wouldn't then let me connect to the internet, which made me think something was going wrong...

please please please please please help.

thanks

3 items to look out for:
1. Is the WiFi icon in full black/white?
2. Go to Manage Connections > Services Status--what does it say on BlackBerry Internet Service? Mobile Network or WiFi?
3. Go to Manage Connections > WiFi Options > WiFi Diagnostics and read all the way down

After you turn everything off, be sure you're using the wifi browser and not one of the other browsers.

There are several browsers but only one icon. Open the browser and hit menu and select "Go To." Then type the url you want to go to. Before hitting ok, hit menu and select "choose browser." Select Wifi browser then hit ok on the url. Also, shortcuts are saved with the browser you want to use. If you have shortcuts saved using other browsers then it may not connect through wifi.

this all makes sense, but how do i get my wireless network to turn on? It's all configured, but in my 'manage connections' it has a yellow circle with a bar through it rather than the green circle with the tick in it. How do i get it to change to a green circle with a tick in it? i am beginning to loathe my blackberry, why do they make them so pointlessly complicated and user unfriendly? Also, how the bejesus do i mark several messages so i can delete them all in one go? at the moment i have to do them one by one, which frankly takes ages.

To delete your messages, highlight the first one then use the shift key and roll the trackball. Or you can highlight a date and select "delete prior." There is a user's guide on the CD that came with the device that will tell you how to do all this.

As far as the wifi, we'd need more info. Do you have a BB data plan with your carrier? You need that to get the green check. Without a BB data plan you can still use your wifi but you need to set the default browser to wifi browser.

I do have a BB data plan with my carrier. I can connect to wifi successfully, but I have no idea how to get the yellow stop circle to turn into a nice green check and allow me to surf using wifi. I have set my default brower to wifi, and sometimes it even seems to connect to sites, but very very rarely. I just don't really understand it, and it's kind of annoying me.

Equally I cannot get bluetooth to work, same problem as with wifi, a horrid yellow circle instead of a green check. and even though i can receive files from my blackberry to my other bluetooth devices, i cannot send things via bluetooth to my blackberry. I get an error message.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

A few questions - is this a new BB? Does it have an IT Policy on it?
What type of wireless router are you trying to connect to?

it's a new blackberry, not sure what you mean by IT policy... I am on Orange in the UK and I have their standard blackberry package.

It's a router that came with my talktalk package. on the bottom it says it is an 'echolife hg520s'.

Hope this might help...

HG for home gateway right. Sometimes, some ISPs don't work pretty well with WiFi BBs. Have you checked with other BB-having talktalk subscribers? Also, do you run any security on your wireless router? MAC filtering perhaps?
