Default my signal bounces from 3G to EDGE all day long!

Please Login to Remove!

im trying to figure out if its the network or my device. im in the S.F. Bay Area, excellent 3G coverage on ATT. my signal will go from 3G to EDGE, back and forth all day long. 15-20 times. the majority of the time its on EDGE. if i turn the radio off and back on, it will always go to 3G for a while. i have compared to another 9700 side by side, and the other always has 3G when i have EDGE. this problem just started about 1 month ago. i even tried backing up a few OS versions and that wasnt the problem. so i had my phone replaced yesterday and im still having the same problem. i even told them to give me a new sim card just in case. i have no idea what to try next. is anyone else experiencing this? anyone have ANY ideas?

I am in Florida and I notice the same thing. It is not all day long but it happens periodically throughout the day.

I assume it goes to EDGE when you are inside?

no. inside, outside, makes no difference. in my house for example, i am capable of getting a full 5 bars of 3G signal. so the signal strength in the area is not an issue. and again, if on EDGE, i can turn the radio off and back on and immediately get 3G. before a month or so ago, i didn't have this issue. it always held on to 3G

Does it happen at the same locations or can it happen any where? Have you called AT&T and talked to a tech? Could it be a tower problem in your area?

Wirelessly posted

I have the same thing going on since this thing was new. I see it more when indoors but it happens anywhere. I believe its the device because I have been in numerous cities and have the problem. IMO this phone isn't too hot.

Various data outages I am sure but gotta say in SF the 3G on ATT just isn't reliable.

i called ATT yesterday and the only thing they could think of is that my old data plan was causing a problem. i tried not to laugh at him. data plans and voice plans have internal "codes" used by the system to identify the plan you have. the data plan i had hasnt been offered for over 2.5 years. (unlimited data + 1500 messages for $40) thats $5 cheaper then whats been available since. anyways, just to humor them, i let them change it to a current data plan (200mb $15) which will actually save me money as i never come close to 200mb in a month. i made sure was guaranteed i could get my old plan back if this didnt work. its been almost 24 hours and it seems to be working. i have only seen EDGE twice, where as before i know i would have seen it MOST of the time. i will give it some more time and report back
