Default Can I upgrade to anything newer than 4.5?

Please Login to Remove!

I cannot find any downloads to update my 8800 software to anything newer than 4.5. Is this possible? I checked all the carriers websites, and none of them carry it. If so, could you please provide a download link? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

No, the 8800 cannot be upgraded past 4.5. It doesn't have enough memory to run 5.0. Nothing has been released for the 88xx since 4.5.

Why is that? What were you looking to accomplish with a newer OS?

The 8800 is a solid device with 4.5. All you would really gain with a newer OS is the Precision theme. I had an 8820 with the latest version of 4.5 for well over a year and it was flawless.

Threaded SMS is available in only OS 5.0.

There is a threaded texting app that works pretty well.

BlackBerry App World - Empower Threaded SMS

BlackBerry App World - 3jam Threaded SMS and Group SMS application

I have to agree with this poster. I went to a Windows Mobile device with the latest OS version and after a week went right back to the 8800 with BB 4.5 which beats winmo hands down! In fact, everything about the 8800 beats the Winmo device I have - IMHO
