Default Move BES user from one BES server to another

Please Login to Remove!

Here is my network setup...one Win 2003 domain...2 locations connected via T1 connection...each location has its own BES and Exchange 2003 server. I need to move the user from one exchange server to another. If i remove his account from the BES server he is currently on, move his mailbox to the other exchange server, is it just as simple as adding him as a user on the other BES server? I know i will have to reactivate his phone on the new server but what i would like is the email/etc currently on his phone to stay in place and not start over with the past 14 days of history..is this possible?

Are you running both BES on same SQL server? if yes then you can just move the user.

No, then it will require an EA.

completely seperate BES servers with their own SQL database...I was just wondering if i deleted his user on one BES , moved his email box to the other Exchange server, add user to other BES server, set activation on server and go through the activation process on the phone again, if the current email on the phone will cuase problems when activation on the other BES server

In theory yes, if the two BESs are at the same level (software, db etc). I move myself between a BES here and in the US all the time and achieve what you are after most of the time. The problem is that sometimes the phone won't be happy with the move and force me to wipe it, thus losing the mail (doesn't bother me but this defeats the object for you).

Ensure when you remove the user from BES1 you also remove the mailbox info, I usually hit issues and need to wipe when I either don't do that or then add to BES2 too quickly (let Exchange replication happen between removing from BES1 and adding to BES2).

If you can use Desktop Manager, I think it will take a full backup of the BB and can then restore to the BB after the move (I don't use DM).

Just for clarification, I run two separate DBs and DO need to EA but DO NOT lose existing BB email in the process (to fully address the original question).

What do you mean "remove mailbox info" from the original BES? I usually only delete the user from the list...

When you remove the user from the BES you get asked if you want to also remove info from their mailbox (the stuff the BES writes to your mbx). As long as I do that before adding myself to BES2 and wait long enough for replication, I usually don't have to wipe (and therefore keep all the old mail as you wanted).
