I had the Motorola Q phone which featured MS Activesync. I loved that feature that would push email, tasks, calendar and contacts over the air. However the phone itself was a POC and dropped calls all the time. Friends said to get the Blackberry. OK, I give in. First surprise it does not sync with exchange server without a $3,000 software addition. We are a small company so that is not where I want to invest my profits, so I utilize Google mail that gets pushed from exchange and Google calendar sync and hook up usb once a week to sync contacts. Not the most ideal situation. Looked at Unite and that does not seem ready for primetime. So now comes the new iphone that now incorporates Activesync. Wife has first generation iphone and I have to say that it works as claimed.
Without the BB exchange software everything is pretty much a workaround. I love this phone but the BB seems more tailored to bigger businesses. I miss the wireless sync with Activesync and will most likely get the new iphone when released. So my question is, am I missing something with my Blackberry?

OTA sync for contacts, notes and calendar on BES is a yes. You can also try looking at hosted BES solutions. I'm sure that would meet your needs, too.

Personally, I'd try the iPhone.

If you're looking for inexpensive wireless PIM sync and push email through Exchange... iPhone is a good option.

Even a hosted BES solution would require you to get a more expensive data plan on your Blackberry in addition to paying a hosted BES service. iPhone will end up being cheaper in the long run.

IPHONE data plans are usually more expensive than BB's. Also the IPHONE is a marginal (at best) telephone. Compared to my Curve the IPHONE dropped calls in areas where the Curve does not. As a business/data device the Curve is exponentially better.......if you NEED You Tube.......IPHONE

if you have hardware and access to your exchange server use blackberry professional software, it's like a cheap lite version of the server software and does push everything.

Three deal breakers on the iPhone:

- terrible battery life (reminds me of the iPaqs five years ago)
- no syncing of tasks or notes (tasks don't exist on an iPhone)
- no access to internal web sites (unless you have a Cisco VPN - which we don't)

Love the UI and form factor. But 4-5 hour battery life is a killer.

I'm sticking with the 8320 and waiting for whatever comes next.

They are??? Last I checked, through AT&T the 3G iphone data plan is the same price as the personal BB plan. The original iphone data plans were even $15 cheaper then BB.

I am paying more on AT&T than on my corporate T-mobile (BlackBerry) plan. Both on the voice and data plans. Probably $20-$25 more per month.

I think TMO is the only exception. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon's BB plans are on par with the iphone data plan.

Wait until you try a 3G blackberry. The battery will be just as bad.

I use both a 3G iPhone and a BB curve on a daily basis (I do mobile support for my company). This is what I will tell you. If you are looking for a device for email primarily, get a blackberry. If you want to use anything else on your device (media, games, browsing, chatting, ..etc) get the iPhone.

What exactly is the difference between iPhone and BlackBerry email? I know a little about the BIS/BES difference. But I keep hearing about how BBs have better push, yet I receive email on my iPhone instantaneously (have tested.)

Good thread. I would stick with the BB for the keyboard. Iphone is difficult to type long e-mails.

Battery life has improved with 2.1 software upgrade.
There are quite a few task apps available through app store for free, which have syncing available, and are really good apps.
Yes, no access to internal web sites, but two out of three ain't bad...
