Default AT&T takes the cake w/ not being able to help

Please Login to Remove!

Att wireless takes the cake! I called about the issue w/my Bold not being able to connect to wifi. They kept on and on about adding a data plan. I was like dude I had a htc fuze that connected just fine. Nope they were not hearing that. Why did rim add wifi if I wasn’t going to let me use it w/o a data plan. I just got a bunch of double talk about WAP and how her IPod touch dose the same thing WTF?

Google is your friend, so is our search function. There are several posts here and in other forums found on Google about how to do it. The link I am posting explains how to do it with an 8320. Not sure if it will work on a Bold or not. From what I know, however, is that you will need a Bb data plan to access some of the ATT hotspots in Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.

You will need WiFi service books from ATT however.

Also, you will need to be real careful and ensure you are really accessing via WiFi and not via ATT, or you might end up with a huge, unexpected data bill

Maybe you could try manually configuring your wifi information. Instead of getting it from dhcp, try manual and see if it works that way.

I have a friend that his Bold would not connect to his wireless home network, even though my does, so I went in and manually configured the info and it works no worries from then on.

no i dont have a data plan, from what I have read itxxx8217;s futile with out a data plan. So I just gave up and going to pretend my phone doesnxxx8217;t have Wi-Fi. but i think i might be more mad at Rim than ATT now.

You do not need a data plan to use your wifi:

Browser --->Browser options ----> Browser Configuration ---> CHANGE the browser mode to Hotspot Browser instead of Internet Browser.

That's All

Oh BTW, my Bold is not ATT do give it a try

Why not just get a data plan? Wouldn't it be much simpler? If buying one of these phones, it would seem that you could also go for the data plan. However, I do agree with all that the monthly prices they or anyone charge is just plain crazy.

NewBoldAddict ya I have it set up to hotspot, even downloaded Opera, some1 said that I canxxx8217;t use blackberry browser.
cadmanmeg I have wifi every place I go. When I bought the phone I thought it would be a peace of cake to hook up to Wi-Fi. So I saw no reason to pay $30 more bucks. I was w/ T-mobile and came over to ATT for there phones but paying about $20 more a month! And another $30 on top of that is just out of the question.

Have you tried updating your OS? I suggest this for a lot of issues people have... but with good reason; it usually helps. Try updating to the latest one and see if you have any better luck. It could be a simple feature that wasn't implemented in the version you're running? Assuming, of course, you're running older software. If you already have the latest, ignore this completely.

I had to correct the AT&T lady about 3 times when I called them after purchasing my Bold. All carriers have people that are knowledgable and all carriers have people that aren't. Its a crap shoot.

I had T-Mobile and in my experience their Blackberry Specialists were very well-informed. They were a great help when I needed them.
