Default BB software updates?

Please Login to Remove!

I take it the only way to update the BB software is to use a PC? Since this is my first BB does an update wipe out everything you have on the phone? Such as applications ect? If not I would assume you could just go to the local Sprint or Verizon store and they would update the phone for you..

no they wont actually and it does wipe out somethings but not everything. Its really hit and miss. But if you use a PC and back up all your files when you load the update its all right back on the device and ready to go.

Yes, you need a pc and not sure if it wipes your data but I would definately backup your data before the update. The desktop manager for the pc is a great tool that is easy to use for backups. Between the BB website that has the updates / upgrades and the desktop manager you will be good.

Also, i would recommend looking at the RIM software section as they will list the options for OS for your phone as well as how to unlock the other vendor themes once you upgrade.

Us poor mac users are just left without a full desktop app for now.

I am really disappointed that RIM does not do a better job supporting Mac users. It creates an opportunity for the competition. Why should I need to use a PC (which I don't have) to upgrade my OS?

I use Windows XP Home with VMWare Fusion in my Macbook to backup my BB and also upgrade the OS of my BB Curve.

Well the number of people who use Macs is still significant.

but not significant enough for RIM to be rushed to make a decent program for you

hey the iphone works with mac and itunes but not with pc and windows media I am disappointed there.

Not really

Unfair. I think you also have to count all of the iPhone users who are able to get secure, corporate e-mail wireless to their iPhones, you would see a different picture.

Actually, 6% + 0 = 6%.

Never mind.

yeah but why license pocketmac and let them leave it as is?

How hard is it really for RIM to do something in a reasonably quick timeframe? seems like everything they do takes 5 years.

I understand and agree about the 6% marketshare, just cannot understand their strategy, if their is one.
