Default New to MAC

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone...

Well, I did it... I joined the MAC race... and I installed the PocketMAC software... Worked pretty good... Only I believe there is a big bug in the software or something... After the first sync I noticed that the laptop's fan was running, even thought nothing was going on the laptop. I opened up a terminal window ( going Unix on you guys) and noticed the load was over 1.0! So something was hogging one of the CPU's ( dual core). I tried to run "top" to see what the process was but it never returned. CPU was soo hogged that top wouldnt work! I then tried to restart the laptop and it hung on the shutdown, I had to power cycle it the old fashion way.

Upon boot up I duplicated the issue again... same thing right after the first sync completes...

Any help out there? Am I missing something?

I probably would have figured it out, but I got busy looking at some amusement parks on google maps! heh

One thing you can look at is the activity monitor. This will tell you exactly what apps are running and what is being the CPU hog.

Another thing to try is to repair permissions. Go to your applications folder > Utilities>disk utility. Then highlight your hard drive and click repair permissions.

You need missing Sync. I downloaded it yesterday and my first sync was totally and completely w/o problem. I could not believe it!

Definitely worth the $40 IMO

I did not have a good experience with PocketMac (many problems getting syncs to work properly and, like the original poster, it used up a huge amount of resources for no good reason).

I too have found that Missing Sync does a flawless job of synchronizing info between my BB and Mac. I do find it overpriced, however, particularly considering that they still have not released a conduit for installation of software.

You can always try firing up top (or activity monitor with the CPU tab selected) before you sync, at least then you may get a glimpse into what is bogarting CPU before it completely runs amok. Personally I trust the unix tools more than the aquafied ones but thats probably just my own deal.
Repairing perms is probably a good idea too.
