I am writing a book, and the main character has a Curve, which I have as well. I'm trying to test my theory on mine, but there are a few things I can't figure out.

In the book, the girl receives a threatening text message. She leaves it open on the screen. A guy on a plane finds the BlackBerry, and sees the message. He gets a phone call from someone (not her). He doesn't answer. A stewardess tells him to turn it off. So he does. When he turns it back on, it's passworded and he can't get into it (this prevents her from calling it and just asking for it back.)

Several things need to happen but I don't know how to facilitate it.

He must be able to read the text message.
It must be set to password protect only on turnoff, not inactivity.
He must receive a phone call he doesn't answer and turn the phone off.
He must be unable to use the phone after turnoff because he needs the password.
Her screen owner address will be her job. He won't send it there.

----

So. A guy finds a cellphone he can't unlock.

If he replaces the SIM card, it's like a brand new BlackBerry, right?

Can he read the card some other way ie. inserting it into a computer or another phone or taking it to the cell company? I need this answer to be no.

Can he somehow reset the password to access her stuff without wiping it clean? I need this answer to be no.

Can he get the cell phone company to unlock it for him? I need this answer to be no.

Can he do ANYTHING to access her info or allow her to call it and talk to him?
I need this answer to be no, no, h*ll to the NO.

Thanks so much, guys.

I fully appreciate technical correctness in fiction when describing the usage of electronic devices but, since it [I]is[I] fiction, why not just have it happen the way you want it to happen? Everyone else does.

I mean, heck, look at all the things Bond did with his Sony Ericcson in Casino Royale! I'd gladly shuck my BlackBerry if that Sony could really do all that! lol

Well, you do have a point there. I've nitpicked this novel to the point that I've driven myself crazy. It's written but I'm in rewrite. I'm going to be bald before I'm finished.
