Default Exchange/PST questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry Pearl and have a couple questions.

Our office has Exchange and I currently use a .pst file. When I initially got my BB and received calendar invites, the invites would get placed into my Exchange mailbox and not in my pst calendar which was fine because they would get synched over the air with my BB. Since then howerver, I must have done something because my invites are now getting saved to my pst file and not getting wirelessly syched with my BB. Any idea what may have happened? I understand that this is the normal case w/ a pst file, but not sure why it worked initially.

One other question with Exchange and BB. Is it recommended to use an Exchange mailbox w/ caching versus a pst file to make sure everthing gets synched w/ my BB? If I use the Exchange mailbox, do I need to use the Desktop software provided with the BB?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Are you on BES? BES is the only way to wireless sync calendar/contacts/etc. It's not possible otherwise. period.

If you are, make sure your mail is delivered to your Mailbox NOT your .PST file. Double check your settings.

if you don't know how to do this, better call your IT department.

We do have BES. What is wierd is that when the BB was initially installed my calendar invites would go to my exchange mailbox and get forwarded to my BB. But recently something happened and my calendard invites only go to my personal folder now.

In the past my mailbox would get rather large and I moved to a .pst file so I could get it off the server. Is is possible to use exchange w/ caching and archive my messages locally to keep the size of my mailbox down?

I have everything direct to my Exchange mailbox as a rule, so I make sure to get everything sent to me.

I also maintain a PST file for archiving purposes. I keep the same folder structure there, so I can just move messages out after they're a certain time period old.

Hello
I would suggest you get the PST file setup so you may have the option to drag a copy of emails into the PST for on/off-line storage, and get your mailbox fixed by your IT dept so you get your email directly into your Exchange account and accessed by Outlook on your workstation. Once this is achieved, you should note that your Calendar invites will work normally. Just drag and drop copies into the PST for storage, but DO NOT set a rule to automatically file them in to a PST. You can set up Folder Redirection to file messages in folders under your Mailbox Inbox, or on the same level, but the whole thing will only work if your Exchange Mailbox is set up properly and the BES has the permissions needed for it to be accessing the Mailbox it should synchronize and also reconcile messages properly. Also remember that for Calendar invites to work correctly, email functionality cannot be compromised. Calendar depends on email working correctly to send Invites and also receive Responses from the Attendees to the Creator of the event being scheduled.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I switched to Exchange mailbox and everything seems to be working good.
