Same issue here. Got mine brandnew from T-Mobile Germany. After putting some paper "around" the battery I was off the hook.

I have the same issue and the "securing the battery" fix worked.

Amazing.. Come on RIM - get your act together!

Anyone know what % of Bold's suffer from this fault. If I return mine and get a replacement, what are the chances of getting another duff one?

Sounds like Russian Roulette to me.

Hi guys and thanks!

My first post here. I have been through 5 Bolds that we have had on trial from Vodafone UK and RIM. They all randomly reboot, usually when on the desk, or attached to a belt, or when on the phone. So i just took the battery cover off of my current one and noticed there is significant play in the battery. So i've stuck a post-it note between the cover and the battery. I think this has cured it. My director will be most pleased.

I've also ramped up to .147 OS.

Cheers
Zac

I get the Reset/WSOD message whenever I switch my SIM card from one phone to my BB Bold. A reset or two and things are right as rain. The Bold is the most reset-prone BB I've ever used, but they're all recoverable with a simple reboot or two. Obviously I'd prefer rock-solid stability, but at least I have not had to wipe/reinstall. I'm running the original OS, Rogers unlocked on AT&T.

Btw I am not even sure that it is only the battery which is loose here. I stuck some paper around the battery and it is really tight in there now. However I accidently dropped the Bold with its sleeve from around 1m and it rebooted again. It is impossible that the battery moved in there except there is something else.

Same issue, too. I've placed a piece of paper between the cover and the battery. Now, my Bold is working fine since 3 days without any reset or system crash.

I'm on my second Bold in 7 days. First one had something wrong with the mic, as the folks I called said my voice was extremely muffled. Second one has this issue, as setting it down with any force lighter than a feather causes it to reboot. Not too impressed with RIM's quality so far, on my first ever BB.

I can understand the frustration/annoyance factors.

I would imagine that the battery covers are made elsewhere or the manufacture of the covers is contracted out, batteries are purchased elsewhere; and while I understand also that these things should come up during assembly and QA, I can also understand these things slipping through. The main components (board, display, etc.) seem well built, just the tolerances for the battery and cover seem off (perhaps the bezel too).

I don't know how the units are tested either (every unit, every x units?) but likely they pass the bootup tests and QA believes everything to be fine. I'm not defending RIM's QA process or anything, and yes I know this is a $500 phone, but I can understand at least why/how it can happen. Yeah, I'd be pissed if my display LCD or trackball fell out but I'm a bit more tolerant of battery/cover related reboot issues.

Default I had this Problem in Miami

I stuffed my bberry as well but that's not the problem. The problem is in the mobile network options. If you allow it to roam between 2g and 3g in south Florida (on Rogers) it will reboot everytime it switches networks. Manage Connections - mobile network options - network mode - choose 2g only. That will stop the reboots.

Default Worked beautifully for me

Thought I might tack on to the end of this thread... my bold had a tendency to do the exact same thing. I told myself I wouldn't let it bother me, but it kept on doing it. Figured something had to be done.

Tried putting thin pieces of cardboard at the top part of the battery assembly to jam the battery in there. It doesn't work, as the upper portion of the edges of the battery is receded from the lip on the bottom, which reaches almost all the way to the housing. As it is on the bottom of the battery, any obstruction I might place inside the phone must permit the bottom part of the battery to clear first.

I realized I was attacking the problem from the wrong angle. The battery isn't going upward (toward the camera) to lose contact, it is going outward - away from the body of the phone to lose contact. Even if it was going upward toward the camera, it would need wiggle room to do so.

I cut up a 1.5x1.5 chunk of thin cardboard (the kind from a cracker or cereal box will do just fine), and sealed it to the inside of the battery cover with masking tape.

It just fit. The battery door fit on cleanly, and upon multiple vigorous shakes of the phone, I couldn't even feel any motion.

Only issue I can picture myself running into is the fact that I'm selling this phone tomorrow morning. I think I'll have a hard time explaining this one to the customer

What ever happened to the good old days of well-fitting batteries in the 7290s?

Okay, I have an original BB9000 Bold from T-mobile Netherlands. Everything still OEM, nothing not original.
Tonight I'm on internet thru Wifi. Tryin' to get in this board (blackberryforums.com).
Suddenly the device freezes and the small clock icon appears (not movin'). After a few minutes waiting if the device will get itself out of this condition i decide to pull the battery. Wait a little and put it back in. Red led lights up, goes out and the screen lights up, with the moving clock. Screen dies again and red led lights up again. Goes out again and screen lights up with that little clock again. Dies again, red led. .Screen. Led. Screen. Led. Screen. Led. Etc, etc....

Now what??

Haven't had this issue before.... :(

I am on my third Bold due to the rebooting, it is not the back, battery leather or any of those, it is a fault with the unit itself. AT&T have given me three new ones so far, stay tuned.

Angry BB Bold 9000 won't stop initialising! HELP

I bought my blackberry from a friend two days ago- brand new and unused. I charged it as soon as I got home and it worked perfectly fine the next day when I used it in college. However, on my way home.. it just turned itself off and when I turned it on again. the screen went white and there's this sundial image.. then it goes off again with the red light on top and after that the red light turns off. I called my friend for help - he has the new BB bold- and he said it does the same.. so I left it overnight like that and it's still the same in the morning. :(( I'm getting really frustrated 'cause I really need it. I don't have any other phones to use.

Angry BB bold wont stop rebooting

I have the same problem. It just started 13 months after I bought the device, so I do not know what to do.. May be I will have to live with the post-it note. They should have a higher quality standard, when these things cost so much

I have seen a few posts where a white screen with a battery shows then the red light and the cycle doesn't stop. I was having this problem after running my battery to death, I had no luck with battery removal combos, what ended up working was this:

Hold down - Alt + Cap Lock key + Delete - I did this and amazingly I got the little clock icon, the AT&T orange home screen and I was back in business without doing a reset.

This may have been luck but it is easy to try before redoing everything.

Usually when the white screen & red led repeatedly happens I take out my memory card. Not sure why but I find this helps reboot it normally. Then you can pop the memory card after the boot up has finished.
