Default Stolen Blackberry Bold 9780 Question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have a long winded post here....

Last monday I went out in Cardiff to a club, and was bbming my friend. My last bbm to her was at 02:57 where i said, 'see you in a sec'. I went to the toilet and I think i left it by the sink to wash my hands. I then walked out and straight away realised I didn't have my phone, so ran back in there to find it had gone.

Now. I loved this phone. It was so good! so i'd do anything to get it back.

The situation is so far:
Straight after I'd lost it, I rang it, but it went straight to answer phone. So, with the device fully charged at the time, the battery must have been taken out. I asked at the bar and they have not seen it at all.

Having rung vodafone to block the SIM, i requested they did not block the IMEI, so that the thief would start using it and potentially be traceable.

I've tried BBMing my PIN, but the messages aren't reading 'D' so aren't being delivered, again the phones probably off.

So my question is really, what the hell is being done with my phone? if nobody's using it and its not been handed in to the police or the bar, whats left to do with it? such a desirable phone would not be sold for parts surely????

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

Alex.

Let me check my crystal ball...

Probably at a local pawn shop.
Maybe traded for crack?

Or it could be shut off, sitting in somebody's pocket while they sleep off the night's partying. Most likely it's being readied for sale, or pawned like JSanders said.

On the off chance that somebody did the right thing, you might check with the club's lost & found and see if it was turned in. Likewise, check with Vodafone and see if a local shop got it to attempt a return to you.

Do you have it password-protected? The casual thief will often hesitate at the warning about "erasing all data" after 10 incorrect attempts. That might explain why nobody has used it and left if shut off.

hi,
yeah i realise you won't actually know JSanders. Just an indication as to what might be happening to it.

It's been switched off for a week now, I find that rather odd for stolen goods. I certainly think your point about the password-protection scaring them off very possible. I've been scouring the internet searching for my phone, no results which is good in some ways. I have not tried pawn shops though. May be a silly question, do they not just specialise in jewellery? May ring up a few local ones just to be sure though.

Thanks for your reply rambo47.

Alex.

A true pawn shop will take ANYthing. They see jewelry most often, but they'll take guitars, stereo equipment, boats, whatever.

Craigslist is a favorite selling spot for stolen mobiles in the U.S. Did you ever check with the club to see if it was turned in?

Yeah I checked that night and the night after. And I rang them up because the police requested CCTV. So they definitely don't have it behind the bar. Whether its still lost somewhere in the club or something I don't know!

Thanks for the information about pawn shops, i'll definitely be looking into that.
Craigslist, amongst others (ebay, gumtree etc) have showed up nothing.

It's gone. Let it go. You'll never get it back or find out what happened to it.

Depends on the thing.
I only fight battles that I know I can win... and I know, from experience, that trying to recover a stolen mobile phone is virtually impossible.

I'd have to agree with the others...time to move on. Sorry your phone is gone, but there is almost 0% chance it it being found/returned.

Especially after a week.

A week is FOREVER when it comes to a lost cellphone. "It's only been a week" makes sense if you're trying to find a shpwreck or the lost city of Atlantis. But for a mobile you realistically have 48 hours. That's plenty long enough for somebody to do the right things if they were so inclined.
