I purchased my 9630 in Dec (not june or July as earlier posted). I am having similar problems with the trackball and concur with all that has been posted in this thread.
Another remedy: I spoke to a my verizon toubleshooting technician who advided me they have a remedy - bring it in and they will replace the trackball and or replace the phone. If you are within a year's warranty, they told me I can upgrade to another PDA. Best to you.
