Lately my trackball has been non-responsive, or it scrolls opposite to my thumb gesture. Anyone know if this is a device issue, or if there is something I can do to fix it? Thanks!

Yes, the trackball has been an issue with the 9630, especially the first batch that were sold when it was first released. A lot of people returned theirs and got a replacement.

I am wondering if the aftermarket track balls would fix this problem? Or is it something in the OS?

Do you carry the BB in your pocket? Could be dirt or lint under the ball as well.

Or you could wait for the essex 9650 Tour2 to come out and demand that Verizon give you a free upgrade by whining and crying and complaining like everyone else does...

wife picked up the curve 2 with the new trackpad and its nice. big improvement over the ball. hope the tour 2 comes out soon with it

I purchased my 9630 in Dec (not june or July as earlier posted). I am having similar problems with the trackball and concur with all that has been posted in this thread.

Another remedy: I spoke to a my verizon toubleshooting technician who advided me they have a remedy - bring it in and they will replace the trackball and or replace the phone. If you are within a year's warranty, they told me I can upgrade to another PDA. Best to you.

Had a trackball issue, called Verizon and they sent me replacement with fixed trackeball, but with other problem (frequent reboots). Called VZW again and got one more replacement - everything is OK (15 days) - keeps my finger crossed.

On Day 2 of Tour #2. Tour #1 had the trackball issue despite having never been in a pocket without the holster. I wish they would have let me switch phones though, I'm having Storm2 desires.

Verizon said on the 9630 trackball issues are not dirt like the Curves usually were, they are software issues that need to be resolved by your carrier.
For what it's worth. I searched for a way to replace the Tour trackball on my own but no luck.
