First, if this is in the wrong section. I do apologize. Anyway, it's been a while since I've logged in, but this is something I just had to share. As some of you know, the BlackBerry Desktop Manager was released for the Mac OSX yesterday. I was excited because now I could use my BlackBerry as a modem without the need of using BlueTooth (something I refused to do). I called T-Mobile (my carrier) to help me configure my network. I soon discovered that the T-Mobile BlackBerry support line did not even know a manager existed for the Mac, so they were only able to help me configure my BlackBerry using some modem script from this website: http://www.fibble.org/BlackBerry.ccl.zip
I was upset that they couldn't help me (they weren't even prepared), so I decided to figure it out myself. So here's exactly what I did:
I installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.1). It then asked me to reboot before I started the application. So after the reboot I started the application and connected my BlackBerry Curve 8320. I soon noticed that my BlackBerry was added to the network connections list.

So here is exactly what I did to tether (on my first try):
01.) Apple >> System Preferences... >> Internet & Wireless >> Network
02.) Then I clicked on "RIM Connected Device"
03.)
Telephone Number: *99#
Account Name: GPRS
Password: GPRS
04.) Now click the "Advanced.." button.
05.)
Vendor: Research In Motion
Model: BlackBerry IP Modem (GSM)
APN: wap.voicestream.com
CID: 1
06.) I did not do any other changes to to the Adavanced preferences. So then I hit "Connect" and BAM! I'm online via USB!

How did I know what to do? When I was on the phone with T-Mobile, they gave me the configuration details if I were to use BlueTooth. So if you want to try for your carrier, call them for the details and then try using USB instead of BlueTooth. As a note, I have supplied screenshots :D

Excellent writeup. I am thinking the Mac tether via BT, and the Mac tether via USB should be merged into a single article on the BBFAQ.

Does anyone know the configuration for Sprint? My bluetooth tethering stopped working this weekend, and I am desperate to get the USB tethering to work.

From what I can tell, you should do the following based on the directions I have above:
Telephone Number: #777
Username: Blank or Sprint username
Password: Black or Sprint password

I think that is all you have to do?
If that fails, click on Advanced and use the follow:
Vendor: Research in Motion
Model: BlackBerry Ip Modem
APN: Blank
CID: Leave it as the default

Once again, I don't have Sprint. You should call them and ask them for the tethering details via BlueTooth and base your field input off of that. I used these guides:

Still did not work. I've been having issues all weekend with tethering..first through bluetooth, and now with DM. Any suggestions? I have a sprint blackberry 8330 using the 4.5.0.131 OS, on a Mac with 10.5.8

Surprisingly with a custom modem script I get faster connection speeds via Bluetooth than I get with USB.

Can someone PLEASE help me with this!

When I follow all of the steps listed above, I do not have anything that says "RIM Connected Device". I did before but somehow it's gone. Also, when I DID have that, I got a message after pressing connect saying that the modem device does not exist. WTF? Help! Im using Rogers

The instructions were great but when i connected the storm via usb cable it doesn't connect in the network screen. any suggestions? thanks.

Does anybody have a fix for tethering a verizon BB curve to a mac 10.6.1 snow leopard?

I had a great connection using vzaccess manager before moving to snow leopard...

Kudos for the post, I've been dreading the conversation with the TMobile people ever since the new DM was released... Shouting "Agent" at a computer only to be transferred again when one comes on that can't help with BBerry- (Not to mention explaining, "Yes I'm on a Mac")

Not how I'd like to spend my morning.

I will try and tether with my Macbook Pro this evening and see if Ic an get the connection going with this FAQ as well as the one you created.

All other times it has failed to connect with my Bold 9000 and Leaoprd, now I have Snow Leopard installed so see what that brings.
