Yes. Profiles/Sounds.

Silent or vibrate kills the sounds.

Normal or loud enables the sounds.

that's it in short.

Not for startup and shutdown.....it's on vibrate and when I turn device on it makes the sound and when i turn it off it makes the sound.

Well then please explain the problem a bit more in detail?

What sound does it make? And, at what point in the startup/shutdown process?

When you turn the device on it makes a sound like a small little jingle and then when i turn it off it makes another nice little jingle. Both sounds sound like they ramp up for start up and ramp down for power down.

Startup sound happens about 2 seconds after you hit the power button and shutdown jingle happens about 10-15 seconds after i click the shutdown icon.

Heh, I've never seen (heard) that happen. None of my BlackBerrys have done that. Maybe its something particular to the Tour.

Let's see if someone else chimes* in here....
*pun intended.

all sound controls can be changed within the profile settings on the device- you may also setup shortcut keys on the side of the device to link directly to sound settings
