The white square in your picture (upper left) is the moisture indicator.

Your red square is actually pain on the circuit board.

You are safe (and dry!).

But I would like to know why my phone has an error 523, I was told that it was because my phone had water damage.... Would that red square have anything to do with that error?

Wirelessly posted (phoobia?)

523 if memory serves me right is a java error.

Not caused by water damage

If you do a search for that error, it pulls up a lot of info. Try this thread.

Ah, what if your water indicator is red? Does it, you know, ever dry out and magically work again?

That would be unique. ;)

Wizdom, your store might look at it, and some do vary, but they very likely won't touch it if the moisture indicators are red. Routinely, they are instructed to give the device back to the user, and say "sorry, we can't help you, since your device has gotten wet".

For the time being, remove the battery immediately, and dry the BB before it is too late:

So heres the story.... About an hour ago i dropped my phone in the sink while water was running i pulled ti out quickly and dried it off and put the batt in about twice after and it flickered (screen) i read on here that you shouldnt put hte batt right back in after words (will this ruin my phone because i didnt wait the 3-5 days and can i still leave it out to dry because im doing that right now) the water indicator is red so i know im screwed. Do you think my phone will work again and also do you know how much or an estimate of how much it will be to repair it? ... I also dont have it in rice but i have it on my tv top. Should i do the rice thing and if so do i wrap it in tissue or cloth and then place it in rice ?

You won't know until the 5 days have passed. If you have hot weather in Toronto now then leave it on your car dash with the windows up. This will greatly speed the process.

Good Luck and don't be impatient unless you have the funds for new device. It is just not worth it!

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

Wizdom, we've posted the recommended way to help dry your device, I did with the link I gave you, and Thatzmister as well, and you keep asking questions about whether you should do it or not.
Yes.

Follow the suggestions, is all I can recommend. Don't be tempted to drop the battery in and "check it" before 4-5 days have elapsed. I have saved a couple from water damage, and I lost one (which was completely submerged in salt water).

Good luck, please do report back?

Ive been there buddy, I dropped my BB into my glass of water and did the same thing you did and turned it on several times when it was still wet.

I saved my phone by leaving it on a towel on top of a radiator for about 3 days. When I went back to it everything worked again just like new. I have not have any problems in over 3 months! My water mark has turned red on me but the phone is still truckin!

Keep on being patient, thats all this takes and then you should be "ok"

GOOD LUCK

Post Possiable water damage

Here is what happen to me I was outside watering the lawn and had my 8310 outside on the ac unit listening to the mp3 player and just for a split second i had sprayed in the dirction of the phone, then about 10 min. later it just shut off and has not powered back on since. I have not checked it for water damage instead took it to a cell repair place who has had it for the past week and told me the main board was fried. First is that possiable? Oh yeah and said it would only cost me $295.00 to put a new board in, but they were supposed to call me when they found the problem with an estimate to fix it. They never did so when I called no one knew anything until the supposid manager got on the pjone then all of a sudden he knew everything going on with it though he never touched it and it was a nother tech working on it. Very strange and I plan on making a stink out of it when I pick the phone up tomorrow, but in the meanwhile I still need to fix it any suggestions or help to offer?

Do all blackberries have this indicator? I opened up a BB8310 from AT&T and I did not see any square at the location indicated. Where the water indicator is in this poster's pic, mine is all black plastic. Any idea if there is an alternate location? Or is this just an older version that does not have it?

My Vodafone 8310 does have the indicator as the pic shows.

Any ideas?
