I'm planning on upgrading to a Blackberry Storm 9530 and was curious if anyone had succes with Google Maps on the Storm with a Bluetooth GPS puck.

I'm currently using a VZW Blackberry 8830 and have Google Maps 1.5.4 which seems to be the only version that will work with an external Bluetooth GPS puck.

Also, I understand if you run BB Maps on the Storm and then start Google Maps, Google Maps will use the device GPS. Is that true?

I have the VZW 8830 and have never had a problem with the newer versions of GoogleMaps, using my Keychain 2000 GPS puck. In fact, I'm using 3.0.1 right now. So, not sure why you'd have a problem....

BTW, have you tried turning on BBMaps first, start navigation, THEN turn on GoogleMaps? That usually works.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info! I'll have to see if the Bluetooth GPS Puck will work with the BBS storm.

I'll upgrade to 3.0.1 and try the BBMaps navigation method.

I'm using the same setup, Storm 9530, BB Maps and Google Maps (but v:3.0.2) with the Freedom 2000 Keychaing GPS puck.

The problem I'm having is that when I pair my Storm with the GPS puck, launch BB Maps connect with satellites and load Google maps, it works fine.....but after a short period of time, it seems to go into standby mode (blue light on Storm stops blinking) or if I manually disconnect by shutting it off or going out of reach of the GPS puck with my Storm and try to re-enable it after, it won't work. The only way to reconnect my Storm with the puck is to completely delete it out of my bluetooth settings and re-pair it, as though it's the first time using it. It seems like the bluetooth in the Storm is acting up and won't reconnect to this device. I haven't tried any other bluetooth devices (don't have any). Is this a known problem, if so has anyone heard of any solutions?

Thanks.

DD

You shouldn't need the puck with the storm on VZW. I don't even have BBmaps installed and everything works great!
