Red face Battery was perect a week ago, now it doesn't even last 3 hours?

Please Login to Remove!

If someone could help me, I'd appreciate it so much!
I have the Blackberry Curve 8520, I got it last January and up until a week ago it worked perfectly. Sometimes it slowed down, but that was all. Last week I found that it died really quickly, half way through the day. Now I have to charge it 3 times a day. Even when it's not being used (except to send a few texts) the battery is being drained. One bus ride and it's gone down 40%.
Help! What happened?... What are my options, and can I fix this?
Thanks!

Has the battery run down below 20% consistently?

Sounds like a bad battery to me. Get a new OEM one and see if it works better.

Justabub, could be a lot of things, is the phone and battery new ? did you buy it second hand, on line ? did the battery completely discharge, shutting the phone off ?

If the phone is new I would contact the carrier you got it from (Verizon, Sprint, etc.) and see if there is a warranty replacement due for the defective battery.

If it is second hand, the battery might not be an OEM (Original Blackberry) battery. I once bought a new (supposedly OEM) battery on the cheep from China. It was just like the problems you are having, it started dying within 3-4 hrs after charging, I threw it in the trash 30 days after buying it.

If the battery has completely discharged during use, causing the phone to shut down, then the battery may be damaged. It will run hotter than it used to, and never take a full charge again. It will only last a very short time after charging, and have to be replaced.

At any rate, if you have to replace your battery you want to be sure you get an OEM original battery. If you buy online, stay away from cheep deals, overseas suppliers, and just because the ad says OEM doesn't make it so. Look for OEM batteries with warranties on them.

If you recently used or downloaded a new app, I would check if it is continuously running in the background.

This happened to me. I had a couple of "fun apps" I downloaded from the App World...they drained my battery 3 times a day until I Uninstalled them.

I'm not sure how you can check your memory for your bb -- but yea, just like doing a Ctl-Alt-Del on your computer, you will be able to check what's draining your battery on the bb.

Good luck!
