Here's what I want to see:

Blackberry with GPS.

Matchmaking profile service built around it.

You walk into an area, your BBY lets you know if someone compatible with you is nearby, and asks you BOTH if you'd like to share a message or meeting

ok, what should we do now?

Guess, as discussed in PM, is it fine for you we wait until we are sure about OS4 and modem software and offer something different?

I like the Idea of the modem software. I am assuming that the carrier would just see it a phone call and it would only cost you minutes?

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

ashoush,

Data minutes no longer exist with GPRS :D

There is no dialing up. Blackberries have always-on Internet just like Cable/DSL (even if much slower). You can even run instant messaging 24/7 for 100 hours nonstop without a battery recharge like I do with WebMessenger. Any laptop simulated "dialing" is simply a laptop connection handshake to a GPRS modem.

You can be connected to the Internet 24/7 at no extra charge. You pay only for data transfer (unless you're on an unlimited plan) No minutes are consumed, because no phone number is dialed. If you're on an unlimited plan, you can use it as much as you want.

It'll be interesting to see if carriers start adjusting their tariffs somewhat once the 7100 and 7290 start shipping, a reasonably heavy blackberry user wouldn't tend to use more than about 5 meg, whereas a gprs modem user could easily end up using 10 times than that or even more. I can't see the carriers being very happy about that at all.

The tariffs will probably resemble other cellphones that can be used as modems. Also Rogers doesn't care because there's a 25meg softcap in the Unlimited plan that they can decide to enforce if they wish.

I talked to a friend who works at my Blackberry carrier about BlackBerryModem and they seem interested in it. Apparently according to him, many of the others working there didn't know that the feature is being introduced and now they know about it; I've encouraged them to inquire with RIM to make sure they can deploy this feature in a timely manner (OS 4.0? OS 4.1? 7290/7100 specific? Don't know.)

Default BB Modem

I agree with having the Blackberry modem. It would be great to have connectivity while doing the Ferry ride through the Gulf Islands here in BC

Has this topic closed?

I'll be in the minority. I have no desire for using my BB as a modem. I don't even have a laptop! That's why I have a BB. So I don't need a laptop.

Anyway...

There are a few apps that I would like to see.
* Scientific calculator
* Checkbook register
* Password vault

I just want a good photo album viewer with the ability to drag and drop from the desktop connection. No conversion required.

I'm with Jesse...I don't even mind using my cell minutes to be able to use my 7750 as a modem with my existing ISP dialup account with my laptop.
