Hi guys just ordered my 7100i from nextel. Im so exited to be getting it on monday. Im trying to learn all I can about it and I came across some info saying its application locked?! Does this mean i cant download stuff like opera mini or ramble for my BB? If that is the case how would I be able to unlock it? Thanks in advanced guys.

Where did you read that it is application locked? I think that's incorrect.

I came across it in another forum (howardforums) when looking for a aim client. I didnt bookmark where though :( Then I came across a aplication that unlocked it and other tweaks but it was 19 bucks! But if you guys say its not than thats awesome! Please tell me I can download all the crap i want for my BB! nextel version 7100i riiiiight...

You can download all the crap i want for your BB. It is not locked. It will only play MIDI ring tones and there are a few other minor annoyances, but you can add apps.

One way you hear "locked" in in regard to a carrier lock. For instance Cingular Blackberries may be locked to Cingular. You can have them unlocked to work on T-Mobile. I suppose a 7100i could be locked to Nextel (or Boost or Telus or Southern Linc or something), but unlocking it would only get you other iDEN ability to the carrier with whom you signed.

K now I feel alot better I should probably make another thread but might as well ask here 1st. Any of you with the 7100i hows your expirience with this device (im in so cal) whats your likes and dis-likes? and any tips?. thanks again :D

its a great phone, i cant get off mine. my girlfriend has to hide it from me whenever we hang out. the BB gets more attention sometimes lol. when i first got mine i was a little diappointented to tell you the truth, but once i figured everything about it...its amazing. have fun with it

I LOVE My 7100i my only disapointment is no REAL ringtones thats it! Other then that its a wonderful device VERY powerful!

Good posts guys. I have a 7100i through Nextel that I need to unlock because my work uses TMobile.

Anyone have a Nextel unlock code or do I need to get one for myself?

If I need to locate one, where is the place to go? Again, I now have TMobile and my 7100i is Nextel and I like it!

I do not mind spending a couple bucks if it works.

actually with the new OS update real ringtones are now apart of the nextel blackberry 7100i... wav ringtones not mp3 tho

Nextel uses the iDen network; T-Mobile uses GSM. You can not EVER use a 7100i on T-Mobile. Do not attempt to unlock it - it is worthless and will not work on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile sells the 8700g, the 8100/Pearl and the 7105t.

Just so you are aware, for your 7100i, there is now newer handheld software available for the 7100i. You can go to the webpage www. "nextel.com/blackberry" and arrive at the "Blackberry Solutions" web page. From there, scroll down and on the very right side is a section called "Software and Upgrades". Select the link "Software Updates for Blackberry 7520 and 7100i" to go to a new web page. Once at the new page, a drop down menu appears labled "Please Select a Product". Click on the drop down menu, choose "Blackberry 7100i (TM)", click NEXT and download the latest 4.1 HHSW for your device.

Before doing this you can check the HHSW version currently preloaded on your device by going to Options/About and looking at the 3rd line down. It will say something like "...v4.1xxxx ... platform....". Check to see what version it is and see if it matches the new HHSW version made available this week. That will ensure you have the latest update for your device and allow for support of all applications, ringtones, games, wall paper and anything else you would like to have for your device.
