Default Faced with possibly giving up the blackberry...for a WMD

Please Login to Remove!

OK I am going to repeat what I was told and I am not totally sure what it all means but here is goes....so the company I work for is switching over to VPN gateway client device's...what ever that means. I have been using my 8800 and love it...but it will no longer sync with outlook or Blackberry server??...my friend the techie..said that we could possible set up a e-mail forward but it would be pretty jank (bad I am guessing) looking....and I am not sure if they will support the 3rd party app's out there...

the handset they are looking at is a "Wing"

I have been told I will gain the ability to edit office docs on the go and access our secure intranet....what ever...I like my blackberry

anyone have any pointers....are the new Windows Mobile Devices as bad as the old ones??

Thanks....

Ouch - I haven't played with a WMD for quite awhile, I swore I'd never as much as look at them again.

I'm sure I'm not the first to realize this but isn't it curious that Windows Mobile Device share the same initials as Weapons of Mass Destruction?

Maybe that's what we were looking for in Iraq.. no wonder we didn't find any.

Looks like time to look for another job!!!

NO! Just kidding. Sounds like it would be best to go along with twhat the company is using. Sounds like someone came in and sold the IT people a whole system for company comminications!

Sorry!

There is good and bad to this. I have done consulting work for companies that have gone the same route (that's the bad). After a few years, a few firings, and a lot of money, the companies moved back to BES, and BB Devices (that's the good).

So, my advice is, be patient, there will be promotion opportunities at your company , and a good chance Blackberries will return.

I moved from a WMD 6 device that had been released this year.
Yes you can edit your docs on the device and it does synce with and exchange server, this is buggy and slow at best.

Down falls as you get more and more emails your device will crash and you will be resetting it 4-5 times a day.

Another major issue is that to do the simplist things that the BB will do like threaded sms you need third party apps that are not supported and eat up a lot of system resources

Just to give you some examples

how many devices are they looking to switch? it may be more cost and time efficient to install a BES

I don't think it has anything to do with cost...I think it has to do with a small number of people with alot of pull...there are about 20 of us with handsets...

anywho what a nightmare...I went a jacked with a wing for a while today...I can not belive how SLOW that thing is there is lag when you open the keyboard and the screen dosnt keep up with my typing....and this was a new unit...wonder how long it will take me to brick it

At first glance, I though hmmm..... Giving up my Blackberry (one of 'em anyway) for a Weapon of Mass Destruction might be kinda cool. I'd be the only nuclear power in my neighborhood. But then reallity came crashing down around me and I realized it was Windows Mobile. Bummer. I've tried swapping my Blackberry periodically for other platform devices (most recently Nokia/Symbian s60) and invariably hate them. Once you get used to the way a Blackberry does things, it gets under your skin and nothing else will do.

You are in Texas. Go apply at RIM! Then you will get true BB happiness.

or come to FL. Even the military and PD/FD use BB here. everyone else too. The only windoze mobiles I see are cute girls and retail types.

I would like to turn the gals to the light but my wife wont let me!

I thought the 8800 had VPN capabilities? Or is it limited to the wifi in the 8820?

This is often the case with bad IT decisions.

I love my BB so far, but if the WM Smartphones are anything similar to my Axim X51v then they couldn't all be bad. I wish the BB had the same 3rd party support/amount of options as WMD's.
