Hi,

Just been trying to find out about upcoming models of BlackBerrys as I have an iPhone but want to switch to a BB for a variety of reasons.

I am looking at the Bold 9700 as my network (O2) are pretty good and offering me a free upgrade and cheaper contract to the iPhone one I have. However, I've seen on the internet the BB 9650 or Essex and was wondering are there any dates for availability in the UK, I also heard that the 9650 isn't coming to Europe as it will not work with 3G in Europe are, is that true??? I'd rather wait a little bit for a new model than to jump in and the 9700 be outdated quickly, also the new iPhone is due around June time so I am interested in what features it will have.

Is the 9650 a significant upgrade from the 9700 (I know it looks nicer), but worth a couple of months wait?

Please don't get the 9650 unless your carrier specifically supports it.

Here is a detailed comparison between the 9700 and the 9650. Some (ME) wouldn't consider the 9650 any sort of upgrade...

seems like the same exact phone to me, cept the 9650 is cdma and the 9700 is gsm

You do realize that the original poster is in the UK and there is no CDMA there..

No, the 9650 will not come to the UK, or Europe because its primarily a CDMA device, and the UK and Europe use GSM networks.

The 9650 is (effectively) the CDMA version of the 9700 GSM.

Go with the 9700, or wait a month and see what the new iphone will be like.

thanks for the replies. i ordered a BB 9700 today as I can't see the new iPhone being a huge improvement on the features which annoy me.
