Bluetooth Headset and WIFI not working together on 8320!
Please Login to Remove!
I saw this issue briefly reported on here, I can't seem to find it now, however. No headset, wifi for days. Headset, wifi for 30 seconds. WHAT'S THE DEAL? This is very frustrating. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong...I don't think so, though. Has anyone found a fix for this? Or is it indefinitely broken?
Someone PLEASE shed some light!
TIA

I'm guessing that its a contradicting radio issue. My guess is tmobile out that lock on the radio to allow just one @ a time to reduce battere life. I would call them and see what they say

What exactly is not working? Do you mean listening to music while surfing the web at the same time? Try disabling encryption on the pairing with the headset and see if that improves matters.

No, I'm having this issue when simply trying to use BT during a UMA phone call. On an EDGE call this works fine. I have no idea what's going and unfortunately, neither do any of the "specialists" at T-Mobile. I'm just trying to see if anyone here has had this same issue and if they were able to resolve it.
TIA,

I have had the same problem. Twice today I was on a phone call at home, and both times I was using a bluetooth headset and was on a UMA connection. I noticed the UMA bars went from 3 to 1 and I could no longer hear the conversation. After a few seconds I get the call failed message and it drops, only does this when using bluetooth.
I will try a few other headsets I have and see if they do the same thing, I was also going to try shutting off the encryption on the bluetooth connection to my headset.
Odd as I had the 8320 sitting on my desk about 20ft from the router, clear line of sight even.
I've also noticed this oddity, try connecting to your bluetooth headset and then go into Wi-Fi diagnostics and run a site survey. When I do it, it just keeps connecting and dropping the bluetooth connection and you can't do anything else as that just keeps cycling. Anyone else notice this?
My guess, it will be worked out in a firmware release or 2.

Just disabled the encryption on my headset and dialed 611, seems to work fine and I have been on the line for 4 minutes now talking to this stupid automated system.... Hmmm...
I will give it some more testing, but perhaps this will work for others having this problem?

I take that back, today when I was trying to use the headset the calls lasted about 1-2 minutes and then went dead..
Once I was on EDGE again it was fine. Something seems to be up with the WiFi and bluetooth being used together...

WiFi and Bluetooth use the same spectrum for transmission. This is a know issue in the computer realm, especially notebooks. Try changing the channel on your router and see if that helps at all. I have a new Toshiba notebook and when I turn on Bluetooth and WiFi I actually get a pop up warning about conflicting signals. If you do a Google search on "WiFi Bluetooth Coexist" you will find a lot of discussion about it.

You are right....

Similar to 802.11b, Bluetooth devices operate within the 2.4 GHz band. The difference is that that Bluetooth uses frequency hopping (at 1,600 hops per second) to hop over the entire 2.4 GHz band. 802.11b, on the other hand, uses direct sequence and only occupies approximately one third of the 2.4 GHz band. As a result, Bluetooth hops all over 802.11b transmissions.

Quote:
In addition to utilization, the proximity of the Bluetooth devices to 802.11 radio NICs and access points has a tremendous effect on the degree of interference. The transmit power of Bluetooth devices is generally much lower than 802.11 wireless LANs. Thus, an 802.11 station must be relatively close (within ten feet or so) of a transmitting Bluetooth device before significant interference can occur.

I think this is going to be a major issue moving forward. People love the WiFi and UMA but also love the headsets.

Problem
I am glad you brought this up. I dropped three UMA calls today while on my bluetooth headset. I then turned off my headset and talked through the phone with no problems...

It is a real shame they operatein the same spectrum and can over power each other.

Well, the wifi can overpower the bluetooth. The bluetooth is supposed to be hoping around to different fequencies / channels that are around the current range being used by wifi.
Just doesn't seem to be working correctly. I'm thinking it's a software issue as I notice all kinds of funkiness with my phone and bluetooth devices. I just doesn't act like all the bugs are quite worked out. If I use bluetooth GPS and my UConnect system at the same time it will drop the UConnect and immediately reconnect, and repeat that cycle 2 or 3 times every minute or so.
Would be interesting to see where they placed the relative antennas inside the device.

And so does my jabra BT800 most of the time, it's only ocassionally that it will start dropping the UMA call, and once it starts, it seems to keep doing it for a while so I normally give up after one drop now.
I have .175 on my device and a 2005 300c with UConnect, I think you may have a Mygig system in your vehicle which is different then my REC nav system and UConnect system.

My Jawbone BT headset blows up anytime I'm on a UMA call for longer than 20 mins or so. It works pretty well up to that point, no issues with short calls. My router is in my home office and I've also noticed that I can stay connected longer the further away from the router I am during the call.
I've reverted to a wired headset for home-based conference calls now. Everyone keeps telling me that this is a "known issue".....except Tmobile. They just keep trying to force me to buy their router to 'solve' this problem. Idiot sales reps and techs.

I haven't had any problems with a Motorola H700 headset and my router on channel 3. My other router is on channel 8 but rarely call on that one.
I haven't had any calls over about 15 minutes though and most were under 10 minutes. I can start the call regular and open the headset or start with the headset already connected.
