Default HOWTO: BlackBerry Maps on the Bold (AT&T)

Please Login to Remove!

For any of you that are like me and prefer the BlackBerry Maps to AT&T's Telenav product this may help you out. By default AT&T Bolds do not have BlackBerry Maps and will hide it if you try to add it back in.

Here is how to get BlackBerry Maps back on your beloved Bold:

1. Download the Bold Software from AT&T

2. Install it on your computer and use Desktop Manage to Add/Remove Applications

3. Select BlackBerry Maps to be installed by checking it

4. At this point Maps will be installed, however, it will still no show on your phone due to AT&T hiding it from view.

5. You can show it by using any other theme than AT&T's. I have built a basic theme that mimics the AT&T theme as close as possible that you can download if you don't want to build your own with the CDK.

6. Switch to your alternate theme and Maps will show up as a compass in the main ribbon.

EDIT: I attached some screenshots so you can see what the theme looks like as well as BlackBerry Maps being shown. (Note the background is one of the preloaded ones on the device)

Please let me know if you have any comments or trouble with this!

Cheers,

Jacob

This works. Eventhough I already have .167 installed on my Bold when I bought it, downloading from Blackberry for the same .167 version and did an Application Loader works. I just load my Streamline Today Theme that I got from BB Forum, since it's not AT&T Theme.

Thanks for sharing. Should be sticky, but it's on my bookmark.

I have the same question, and a little more.

Fonzie, I bought my phone from att and the desktop manager (the software being referred to in this post) is on the disk--BUT it was version 4.3.

the link is www DOT att DOT com SLASH bbdownloads (ignore the all caps stuff...sorry...i can't post links yet)

Someone correct me if I was wrong....

My question: I can't find the bbmaps in device manager. I was reading on another site that you needed to uninstall all other nav programs. Can anyone give another beginner a little bit of guidance? (PS, i've already changed to a non-party theme)

Thanks

When I switch to this theme, I don't have the "deep space" purple/blue streaks as the preview shows. I get the "mountaintop sunrise/sunset" background that comes with Precision Silver.

I downloaded the ZIP and installed via DM 4.6.

In any case, I have access to the Blackberry Maps app now. I vote that this should be a sticky as well.

+1
