If you were able to get your hands on a new BlackBerry operating system, did you notice any browser improvements?

Especially AJAX websites. That's the one of the most interest to me.

And when is that RIM official multivendor "AppStore" for BlackBerry coming out?

It felt pretty good even though it was slightly bigger than the Curve.

Due to its curviness, the Bold is more like a bar of soap roughly similiar to an iPhone, while the 8800 is a boxy cellphone with 6 relatively flat sides. So thus, the Bold "feels" smaller than the 8800, even though the dimensions are similiar.

Also, I liked the Bold's keyboard just fine -- some say it's not that good, but I could thumbtouchtype on it right away with no problems. Better than the early 8800 keyboards, for sure, though. (I say early 8800's, because the 8830 keyboard felt better than the 8800 - thanks to subtle stiffness refinements)

I have a couple of questions:

1.) How is call quality on it? I know YMMV and all of that depending on where you are and coverage.

2.) Does it switch between WiFi and 3G relatively easily?

Thanks.

Good suggestion. Done, and some of the post from the other thread moved to here.

Is the battery able to survive a busy day? (A few phone calls but mostly BBM, occasional website, news feeds, and of course many emails.)
Yes, it is.

When I saw the Bold the first I time, I thoug "what a large device". But that is not the case anymore. In daily usage it does not "feel" larger then the Curve. The Bold is not as squarish as the 8800 and therefore feels smaller.
Typing is almost as good as on the Curve, and much better then on the 8800.

What is your favourite thing about the Bold? What is your least favourite thing?
My favourite thing: the browser. The browsing is almost as good as on a desktop browser. The only missing feature is a Flash player.
My least favourite thing: I only get two to three days out of the battery. I am sure RIM will improve this with newer firmware releases.

The call quality is very good, both in GSM and UMTS networks.

The switch is very easy. You can configure the device to use 2G, 3G or 2G&3G. If configured to 2G&3G, the switch between these two networks happens within a few seconds - ca. 2 seconds.

How many days were you able to get out of your Curve? I use mine what I consider a lot (300+ emails a day, 30 minutes phone usage, quite a few text messages, and probably 30 minutes to 1 hour of internet usage) and only get two days, maybe three if I don't make or take any calls on it.

Does it get warm and/or hot?

How long does it take to charge?

Thanks.

Default Bold v Curve Display

I've read some very good things about the Bold display, in terms of the quality and sharpness, which has me salivating. But I don't have a good picture in my mind of the size. It looks to be roughly the same as the Curve, in total, only its a little more of a wide-screen orientation than the Curve (Bold is wider but a little shorter than the Curve?).

When you put together faster processing and memory, 3G and the enhanced OS, it might be a real step up.

Did you get it off of eBay and if not how did you get it?? IMHO 2-3 days of battery life is great imagine how i feel when my iPhone 3G dies by midnight with moderate usage. Can't wait to sell and get my Bold so I can be totally BlackBerry, not a Curve and an iPhone.

With the Curve it was different from firmware release to firmware release. With some I only managed to get one day out of the device. With the better releases I could easily get four to five days. I would call myself a "heavy user", many emails, many browsing sessions, up to one hour call time a day. But there are also some days where I don't make any phone calls at all with the device.

Yes, but only when installing the firmware.

I didn't look at this yet. The last time I charged the device I did this overnight.

if you have the production version, take a picture of it holding the bible in your left hand and the bold showing the leatherrete backing in your right hand and have someone take the picture and post it on this thread.

I agree that the browser is indeed a massive improvement. It is now thus, comparable to iPhone browser in many ways, or the Nintendo Wii Opera browser, in that the BlackBerry Bold browser uses an incrementally zoomable view...

While not as good as the iPhone browser, it is much better. RIM needs to work on improving AJAX support so more Web 2.0 applications work properly -- For example, the iPhone can render maps.google.com to things like GMAIL (full web version), while the Bold doesn't yet... Of course, there's native apps, but these are good tests of AJAX (Web 2.0 capabilities), such as pannable maps, interactive features such as "Edit Post" in vBulletin without reloading the page, etc.

The rendering could be made a little faster, as the iPhone still has the edge here (both Bold and iPhone has similiar CPU speeds).

Zooming is not bad -- it is nicely antialiased -- I would like to see animated smooth zooming motions (ala Opera Mini or iPhone) that can be turned on/off, since that helps provide context, or a shortcut that allows me to quickly and smoothly zoom in/out, such as holding a key while spinning trackball. i.e. I'd like some kind of a quickie substitute for the iPhone "pinch zoom" motion. People who appreciate both the benefit of a BlackBerry and iPhone (without being polarized one way or another), would understand what I'm talking about...

Perhaps this is already included in an updated browswer, but that wasn't seen in the Bold Browser I tried out... That said, the browser is fun to use, definitely preferable over Opera Mini, and I've already made a post about keypress shortcuts that I've discovered in the browser!

Looking at both devices next to each other, the Bold display looks wider. The Curve display size is 5.1cm x 3.7cm, the Bold display is 5.6cm x 3.7cm. One inch is 2.54cm.
