First and foremost, processor, processor, processor. This is the biggest difference I have seen. Things run smoother, and the phones reaction (other than the browser loading) is typically immediate.
The 4.6 OS is stellar.
While some may not agree, the Bold is a darn good looking phone. With measurements on par with the 88xx series of devices, feels so much smaller, and less brick-ish.

Wifi is the drainer, 3G is not as bad as some would suggest. Leaving the phone on 2G/3G hunt kills the battery with the switching. So no wifi when there is 3G, and never let the phone decide on 2G/3G and your fine.
