I used to think Blackberry was superior.

But with MobileMe, I am not so sure anymore.

Gonna take some thinking on my part.

I hate that I have to keep two sets of contacts. Seems like a waste of time.

Then, with the iDisk and the Photo sharing stuff, it seems to really be ahead of Blackberry service, which is basically just pushing emails.

I'll give this gadg' a whirl but probably roll back to ol' reliable when the BOLD bursts onto the scene.

Am I the only one who is very underwhelmed by the 16gig of space on the iPhone 2.0? I think I can add a 8gig chip on my Curve!

I actually like the media player on the blackberry. Works great, integrates with the phone great. Only problem is the Playlists- how does that work anyway?

Haven't seen the news today about the release of iPhone 2.0 (yes, been in a cave all day). What's MobileMe?

Mobile me, if it works like advertised, will be the selling point for me. Its basically like a personal BES for the iphone with push calendar, contacts and mail. Its all hosted on line, so there is no equipment to maintain or software to manage. The only thing is that they will be charging $99 a year for it. I guess its still cheaper then running your own BES.

BES for personal (well now called BPS) is free for 1 user. Sorry BB - cheaper in that regard.
I am not a fan of the original iPhone, but still I did expect a great deal more from Apple. From what i have see (granted i havent done that much research, so take this with a grain of salt and correct as necessary) it is very very similar to the first gen (something people complained about the BB for) and adds 3G/GPS and push email via mobileme. Am i missing something major? Can MobileMe support more than one Exchange profile?

Bold has a slightly faster processor, much more in terms of memory options, iTunes support built in, and sans touch screen, every single feature that the iphone 2 can do, and more. IPhone has a better browser, yes, but the 9000 comes a long way for BB. With the $150 million for developers, and the upcoming developers conference, PLUS the release of the 9500 this year, i really though apple might do more

I don't think Blackberry does that, even with BES.

I don't want to sync my phone with Outlook because I think Outlook is a POS.

I want it all on the web where I can get it from anywhere I am.

BlackBerry and look for BlackBerry Professional Software. And as for the website, that is Unite! a free home based service for OTA file sharing, etc. AND you can run it side by side with BIS/BES, giving you a third option.

So far the ONLY two things i see that the iPhone does that a BB doesnt are:
1) touchscreen (9500 will solve that)
2) browser is better on the iPhone (9000 comes a long way with that)

and for the record, BPS supports up to 30 users, free for 1 user. Unite! supports up to 5, always free.

Rat, I don't want my stuff stored on line in some unsecured place that anyone can gain access to it. Its already been proven that the first gen is not a safe device it was hacked by what a 15 year old with in hours of being released. So who's to say the second wont have the same security risks.


The BB has been around years and years and has yet to be hacked. To me security is a big plus when procuring a device.

Well, for me, it's for personal only. I don't need Exchange for anything.

I just want my phone, web email (Like GMail), and photos to be 100% in sync between a web app and my phone.

It's not really a lot to ask.

Seems MobileMe + Iphone is the simplest way to accomplish that.

Dawg, now the security issues are noted for sure, as my decision has not been made yet. I mean, I just got my Curve 2 weeks ago, which was the real mistake. Should have waited for iPhone or 9000.

The iPhone2 will have plenty of followers. It will be a slick device for sure and as it is the 2nd generation iPhone, it should be a bit better in may respects. Heck I might even try one for a few days but it would never replace my Blackberry. I will get the Bold when it comes out and could care less about the 3G. I seldom do the internet and the 3G will not make my phone or email get to me faster. I mainly want the new interface and better screen.

Heck, by time my carrier will let me upgrade, the IPhone 3 and Blackberry 10000 will be out, so it will all be moot. LOL..

Not really. Mobile me does not require Exchange at all. It is a personal service that gives you BES like push mail, calendars and contacts. It syncs your iphone to your desktop mail and address book. It also has a web based client to view your mail, contacts and calendar. It doesn't require the user to install anything or have a server or anything complicated. You pay annually and get the service hassle free.
Support for exchange is separate from Mobile Me and connects to your corporate Exchange server through ActiveSync.
And you're also wrong about the itunes sync. Sure it will sync itunes unprotected song, but will not play the protected ones. Any phone with an MP3 player will play unprotected songs. So if you have a large itunes library, the iphone is the only way to go.

the protected files just need to be burned to a CD as before to break the encryption, that is a simple process. Also it will transfer the files that ARE protected by the Digital Copy (i think its what its called. its where you can transfer to 'x' number of digital media players.)

not as easy as the iPhone, but still can be done.

yeah, that work around will be there for a longtime but if you have thousand of songs that can be a bit too much. Another reason to buy DRM free, I use the Amazon store and the iTunes+ stuff that has no DRM.

yeah RIM estimates 90% of music on home users PCs is DRM free

well previous CDs ripped to PCs, sharing music, illegal downloads, downloads OTA from their devices, etc. I think you are probably right, but i think its not *that* high. maybe 75-85% at max
