well here it is. straight from SANDISK.com

Sandisk 4 GB Micro SD

and yeah we all think it won't work because of the formating, but has anyone tried it and know for sure?

The guy at the T-mobile store says the Pearl can only handle up to 2gb, but that will likely change with updates.

It even says so on their website. It can only support up to 2 gb.

SD is upto 2Gb,
SDHC is >4Gb
4Gb SD cards without SDHC logo are not according SD specs

BB has no SDHC device till this moment, unless they are able to update it by new firmware, which would mean HW is already in place.
