Yes, I do believe the 7290 cases are an exact match. (I am 90% sure on this.)

Default 7250 cases,

i've gotten several replies from mfgr's:consensus is that while very similar form factor, the 7250 is thinner and would not be good fit (at least not w standard battery?).

i'm putting on egrips and a boxwave screen protector and putting it in my pocket as is. w bt, don't have to take it out as much

I just replaced my AT&T WS (cingular) 7290 with a Verizon 7250.

I can definitely tell you that the two are exactly identical in size.

Both the 7290 and the 7250 are thicker than the 7280, 7230. Cases designed for the generic 7200 series WILL NOT work.

The magnet in the cases is used to activate the "In Holster" setting that you can set via the Profiles. Each event in the profiles (a new messages, a phone call, a text message, the alarm goes) has two setting - "In Holster" and "Out of Holster". So, for example, you could set Messages to Vibrate when in holster, but do nothing when Out of Holster.

And the magnet sets the switch.

I had a leather case I bought for my 7750 from Verizon. Although it did a nice job of protecting my BB, I missed the plastic holster becasue it was quick on the draw. Unfortunately, as has been documented often, it caused a alot of nasty scratch marks on the device.

Have then learned their lesson on the 7250? I would like to regress to the plastic case, but my device is like a new car....without a scratch. Can anybody provide commentary here.

Default the plastic holster w my 7250 is so tight

i have to use two hands just to insert the bb into the holster. think it needs some dremel grinding mod.

Bought the syluscentral aluminum brushed case for 62XX/72XX. Here are my impressions:

Likes:

* Case unsnaps from the clip very quickly and easily, but clip seems to keep the case secure when attached. I like the fact that the case stays with the device when disengaged from clip...better protection.
* Case looks really sleek and hot
* Cutouts allign perfectly allowing US cable, handset jack etc. to fit in while case is closed. Microphone and receiver are exposed so you can talk without opening the case. Nice design
* Great protection for device as well as great fit

Cons:

* Because clip is near top of case, the device hangs lower from belt than plastic holster. My BB seems to get in the way a bit when sitting down or bending over to pick something up. The good news is that it swivels way better than the plastic holster and you just need to flick it out of the way.
* The snap that holds the case together tightly is a bit hard to disengage. I suspect with practice, I will get better at getting it open. I say this as the best case in the industry is Vaja that uses magnetic clips that hold well, but release easily doesn't make a case for the BB we use. The price is a lot higher though and I think this is workable over time.

Summary: despite the cons, I think this case is a keeper at least vs. anything on the market today.

The aluminum case will not work well with the 7250/7290. They are too thick. Also the opened lid interferes with your left hand when typing. It is very nice looking and offers great protection though.

The hydrofoam cases are beautiful (just my opinion) and they are available as the standard vertical style as well as horizontal. I have a blue one and love the fact that it does NOT have the swivel clip. I know some people love that clip, but I for one do not.

I love these too as well, the hydrofoam doesn't mar very easily especially when a bang the holster against walls and corners, etc. And it looks sporty.

This uses a flexible expander along the middle, which makes it work for all 72XX series (7250 7290 7230 7280) of varying thicknesses.

Places like Bell Mobility, The Telephone Booth, and a few others, sell these. Although the ones at the Rideau Centre Telephone Booth sold out relatively quickly...

I will also echo that the 7250 and 7290 are EXACTLY the same form factor and size/thickness. I have them side by side right now and you can't tell them apart unless you look at the carrier logo. The batteries and battery doors are fully interchangable and the extended battery & door work on either one.

Why not just get the RIM case? Is there something special about the verizon branded case?

I was just curious, since with my b2b discount, the Verizon case would be pretty inexpensive. Though if it doesn't have the magnet, I'll definitely get the RIM one when I get my BB next month.

I would be checking out the "Verizon branded' case, because RIM produces cases for Verizon and labels them specific to Verizon. Could be a RIM case afterall..........................:0)
