Just so I understand- if I'm connected to wifi and blackberry bridge, I can only use the bridge connection for browsing? I won't be using the bridge for email and the wifi browser for surfing?

Not accurate. If you're Bridged and using WiFi you can use either the regular Browser or the Bridge Browser. I'd recommend the regular Browser since the Bridge Browser is slower, and if you have a WiFi connection....there is no reason to use the Bridge Browser.

<whew> When I read that, I was starting to worry. I'm really considering picking one up, but got worried a bit. Thanks for clearing that up!

I have an iPad 2 and love it, but the Playbook's smaller form factor and interoperability with my BB are really appealing!

I wonder if this is for security purposes. Similar to a VPN by not allowing split tunneling.

Having issues downloading anything from App World. Says it's having problems connecting to the AW server, please try again later. Not sure if it's the WiFi I'm connected to at work, so will try again when I get home.

I'm having the same problem. I wasn't able to download a single app. It looks like App World is having difficulty trying to resolve the new Blackberry ID with 2 different devices - the phone and the PlayBook.

I found out the issue with mine - I was using the wrong BB ID. I logged into AppWorld on my BB and realized what I had done.

Since I couldn't figure out how to change the BB ID on the PlayBook, I just wiped it and started over. Works like a charm now for downloading apps.

I'll do the same. I hope it works.

But what do you mean when you say that you were "using the wrong BB ID"?

to be honest i am not sure if you can even get to the bridge browser via WiFi i think the bridge features will only work when you are connected via Bluetooth

yep - I turned off my WiFi - and was still able to access the internet through the Bridge Browser but not the standard. This is cool because I have ATT and internet tethering is being blocked by them.

In a clutch, I still have internet access with my PlayBook via the Bridge Browser - YEAH (albeit slower)!!

PRO'S
1.screen is clear and sharp
2. the colors are really good.
3.the weight of the device is nice not to light but balanced
4. the feel is solid
5. able to connect to blackberry for data
6. once blackberry bridge is connected email app on playbook looks like blackberry phone, synced perfect with phone just a little slow when loading emails.
7. front and back cam work good
8. battery life is not bad have not really been able to test it had the device less then 24hrs

CONS

1. the first one is a major issue when connected to the blackberry bridge the data connection can not be used with other apps or even the play-book browser have to use the bridge browser.
2. being its new not enough apps.

hope this helps some of you make up your mind on wanting one or not. if you have any specific questions please ask
+1 on all these comments.

I am happy with it but a little gotya is that you cannot use it out of the box without a WiFI connection> I brought it into the office and there are no unsecured access points nearby. You cannot bypass the initial setup to use BB tethering. In the end I installed connectify on my laptop to turn it into an access pint to get the update and after that just tethered via my 9780.

Need more apps like an ebook reader that you can actually add your own books to (unlike the Kobo reader) :(

I have an old ID that I used to use but it got mucked up a while back when there was an upgrade to AppWorld, and I had to set up a new ID.

I was using the PB with the old ID...no worky.

I love the Playbook as a whole; however, a few things happened:
1) ATT's Uverse router seems to give Playbook fits staying online.
2) If I am online, and I am bridging, it knocks off the wireless connection.
3) Even when bridged, the message I get when I try to look at pictures in my Bold the Playbook, it says there are no programs on Playbook to open the files.

Other than that - amazingly fast. Internet (when it is linked) is fast. The swipe feature is very responsive. I love the multitasking feature.

Anyone have any tips how to resolve the issues I've been having?

Thanks

its been less then 24 hrs and i already returned the playbook hardware wise the device is perfect but the OS still needs some growing up and some serious work. what will make or kill this device is how th cell providers will allow people to tether a data plan they are paying for. i for one feel that data is data it should not matter what device i am using if i am paying 30 dollars for it.

Wondering about your logic. You would be stuck with the hardware, but you like that. The software, which you are not happy with, is going to catch up. I'm betting it will come along fast, as RIM will push directly to the users and not through carriers like with the handsets. Just curious about your thinking.

Haven't had the chance to try the PB yet.

Do you need to use one browser or another depending on what connection?? If you have WiFi access but want to use your BB for Email via BB Bridge you can't use the WiFi browser while connected via the BB Bridge?? Am I confused?

Why isn't the software intelligent enough to see there is WiFi and connect the browser via that.

ok the bridge browser only works when your connected via blackberry bridge bluetooth. once that is on you can use the bridge tools to surge the web using bridge browser and use the bridge message and bridge contacts . it seems what bridge does is it clones your blackberry to the playbook . i am not sure if you can run wifi and the bridge at the same time. i dont see why it wont work i did not try it.

what did not work was that the regular browser on the playbook did not work while i was on the bridge which to me was silly because there was a data connection i dont see why they would limit it to the bridge apps . also the other apps on the play book cant use the data connection via bridge

i agree with you but i just feel that the software on the play-book still has a few updates to go to make it really the perfect tablet . i feel that the play-book has serious potential giving android and apple a run for there money.
