Default Change device PIN ?

Please Login to Remove!

My trusty Pearl died a couple of months ago, and I bought a replacement on eBay.

All my apps and data restored OK, except for my favourite app - BBAlerts - that came with an install code tied to my original BB's device PIN.

All efforts to reach the vendor (Handango) and the BB Alerts developer (Logan?) have been in vain, so my only remaining option is to find a way of (temporarily?) changing the new BB's PIN (and presumable IMEI) to match the old one.

Is this possible ? If so, how ?

If not, does anyone have any other suggestions ?

Think of the security issues if it could be changed on any cell phone.

Thanks, but it's the 8-character device PIN I need to change, not the security PIN/password.

Well either that or work out how to reverse-engineer a new BBAlerts registration key from the new PIN.

It's not like I'm trying to rip them off, if I could only get hold of the vendor I'd gladly buy a new key - life without BBAlerts sucks!

Changing the device pin is not possible but changing to a new Blackberry phone and keeping the various associations with Blackberry ID is possible.

keep in mind, if anyone could change the pin ( or imei ) associated with a phone there would be zero security and any info on or in your phone could be gained.

Thanks. I have a new BB (hence my original post), but unfortunately that's not really going to help me do what I need.

What exactly does the BBalert app do you referenced ? Alert you when and for what. I can find nothing on this app based on the information you gave so far. The "alert" type apps for various thing seem to be available.

It is/was an app that controls the LEDs to give a much better (lasting) alert when you receive an email/SMS, etc.

Google "BBAlerts"

Yes, there are a few other similar apps available, but IMHO BBAlerts was by far the best.

I was able to get a response from Handango on the apps offered. apparently they were purchased by PocketGear and that company looks like it is primarily an android app company. They now only show DETK60/50 , Priv, KeyOne blackberry phones in their support list.
They do not list any App to change led colors.
It looks like they gave up on any non android phone when they were sold.
They do not support Apple phones either.
to me it looks like when Blackberry got stupid and dropped a lot of the phones some companies decided to dump them also and move to android.

As you said their are other apps available and it looks like you may need to look around.

I'm pleased to say that I now have (once more) a working BBAlerts app on my replacement Pearl.

How? With a bit of help (well quite a lot, actually) from here:

Code:
johnmatalima.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/cracking-license-code-apps-bb.html
While I don't normally have anything to do on principle with utilities that "crack" installation codes, bear in mind that the BBAlerts developer and vendor were happy to supply new codes FOC for moving the app from one BB to another until support for the app ceased. So I'm not depriving anyone of revenue.

Hopefully the link may help anyone else in the same situation with an unsupported app.
