they have told me the same thing. it was an issue that started 2 days ago. When I had the globe icon my wife had the IM icon then after a couple of hours her IM icon changed to the globe icon.

You need to make sure you have your APN setting entered:
Go to Options > Advanced Options > TCP, and enter in wap.voicestream.com
Leave the username and password blank.
Let us know if that helps.

Unable to use IM Client
I have owned the 8100 for a week now and I keep getting "Http error 404: Not Found" when I open the Instant messaging application link. I have called t-mobile for help and i am also told they are working on it and have been for months but they told me if i go back to the store and exchange the phone it might work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I triped the wap.voicestream.com thing and it didnt work.
If i look at the page it is trying to load its address is "http ://wipcore.t-mobile.com/downloadcenter/files/oz/pearl/instantmessaging.jad" (no spaces are in the url had to do it for post purposes)
Thanks,
Garrett

im having the same problem. i went to tmobile for about an hour and they could not figure it out. they gave me a new pearl on the spot and it did the same error 404. i looked at the display pearl they had and it worked like a charm. i checked the os ver on the display fone and it was version v4.2.0.42 and it worked like a charm. the 2 pearls i got were v4..2.0.64.
so if your im is not working im going to guess that you have the new 64 version of the os.
i still cant get it to work, and dont want to pay for an app when i should have it for free.

Well you can add me to the list as well....
Got my Pearl yesterday and the IM feature is giving me the error message as well. I guess I'll call T-Mobile today, I doubt the problem will get fixed, but at least it will be one more customer complaining to let them know about the problem.

My Ramble constantly disconnects. Logs in just fine, but about 10 seconds to 1 minute later it's offline.
Really annoying.

Good news!
I called T-Mobile, and somewhat to my surprise, they actually knew of and had a fix to the problem. So, if you are trying to use the OZ messenger that comes with the phone and you're getting the "404: Not Found" error message, from your phone go to:
tmobileapps.com/downloadcenter/files/oz/pearl/instantmessaging.jad
Download the OZ program and install. You should be set!

I am having this problem too and sometimes it doesn't even connect and it'll say connection failed or something like that. It's really annoying because I've only had it for about 1 week and it started happening a few days ago. I went back to the store and called the customer service but they didn't help at all. i got a new bb and it did the same thing. Is there a way for us to get on AIM like a data program and NOT SMS? That would be great because I had the sidekick before and it was perfect. Also, does anyone know how to get your full buddy list on there WITHOUT having to copy everything to the "Mobile Buddies" on your buddy list? Thanks!
