Question Back up error - can't back up database

Please Login to Remove!

Today I was backing up my device and the process went quite quickly. I had some doubts and when i went to look for the file it was not in the designated folder. I tried doing back up again, and the moment it got to "backing up browser options" the process stopped and i got the following error message:

"Error backing up databases"

Every attempt to back up fails at this point and i get the same message.

Than I went to look at the dates of my last back up and it is dated March 20th 2009, which is two days after I got my BB service on my phone.
Apparently, all other back ups ( every tuesday) have failed, but i have also failed to notice.

I haven't installed any other programs nor done anything else which i don't usually do on my phone.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I'm running 4.5.181 and DM version 4.5

P.S i Already tried this http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-database.html

Hmm.. Are you backing up for normal maintenance or for an OS upgrade?

Have previous backups worked for you?

You can try using the advanced part of the BackUp/Restore to backup the other DBs, and make sure that is the only corrupt database.

Actually try clearing your Bowser cache.

Im backing up for a normal maintanance. The last working back up is from March 20th. All other ones have failed but i haven't noticed until now. I cleared the cache and it didn't help.

I will try to back up database by database and will let you know happens.

When i go to advanced back up i can back up all browser related databases other than the Browser data cashe. On the DM it shows that there are three records. However, on the device, everything is at 0.

Cleared all browser databases, back up started and than failed at the messages part. Same error message. Ughh.. very frustrating.

If it matters, I also noticed that my phone is not responding when i select the About under Advanced options.

Here is another quick update: Still cant do normal back up, but the switch device process gets me through to the part which is asking for the newp. device. I'm gonna wait till sunday to get my new 8900 and see if the switch device wizard will work than. If not, i guess im stuch with the March 20th back up

When this happened to me, it was because one of my databases got corrupted.
(In my case it was profiles after installing WSJ Reader). If you watch it when it is backing up, you might be able to tell which database it stops on. Then go to advance and replace it with one in your last good backup. This has worked for me several times.

Might be worth a shot removing some 3rd party apps, do a battery pull and try to back it up..

also install the device OS on your computer and run the App loader make sure it up to date..

after i identified the broswer folders as corrupt, i went and cleared them. Than the back process got stuck on the message module. Removed that as well, than got stuck on the next module.
I think the phone is about the die on my.. good think i got the new 8900 coming on Sunday.
I guess the old back up will do and I will sync with outlook afterwards.

I'd just try and sync you PIM info to get your important info out of there.

If you are going to be keep the device I would reload it with JL_CMDer so you have spare in working condition incase you need it.

I have the same problem when I do a backup but mine apparently does it at a different spot. I have to go to advanced and clear the Browser Data Cache through desktop manager to get it to do a backup. Obviously you've tried that and it didn't work, just letting you know I feel your pain on getting it to work.

I sync with my outlook on daily bases so my most important things are backed up. I was just hoping not to undergo the hustle of installing some third party apps all over again.
