Default Clean your trackball.

List your way(s) of cleaning your trackball to keep it working!

1) Clear duct tape - This kind of tape works well because the glue wants to stick to very small particles and it doesn’t come off the tape itself. I cut off a piece and roll over the track ball every which way making sure to move the spot on the tape that the ball makes contact with every now and then as to assure adhesiveness of the tape on the little hairs and such that the ball picks up.

Compressed air? I admit I sometimes have the habit of blowing air in the device and sometimes on the track ball. I think I wouldn't go as far as using compressed air because I think it would jam all the little particles and fibers back up into the track ball reservoir making it very hard to clean. I personally would avoid doing this.

That's a good idea. I was using a Q-Tip (or cotton swab if you're not into brand names) but i'm gonna try this tape thing.

That's fine. You're one person with one persons opinion. Which is all it is.

If the rest of them want to consider it an issue stop running them down or downing their posts.

People will thank you for your restraint in not posting cutting comments.

I am as allowed to speak my mind as much as anyone else. I have an 8100; one person commented that "this trackball staying clean is going to be an issue". I am giving my opinion. I ran no one down.

I will continue to post when and where I see fit.

And I have an 8100.

back to subject at hand guys

If you look at your track ball very very closely (sp?), I notice that there are little pieces of debris, dirt, dust and little micro fibers clinging on for dear life on my track ball. I keep it in a carrying case (here are some pictures) and I keep it well maintained. All I'm saying is when you buy a corvette and get pieces of debris (leaves, dirt, etc)from your shoes in your car near the floorboards, in my opinion, I keeps it clean, I'll go home and get out the vacuum and clean it every week if I have to because I donxxx8217;t want to have to worry about it collecting in hideaway spots. You donxxx8217;t have to or might not care about maintenance but from what I've read about some guys track ball not working already, I'll take that extra precaution and clean my track ball anyway, even if its cleaning little itty bitty pieces of dirt off it.

Yours can stay dirty, and yes, yours is probably dirty even if its just a little bit (but you dont care), mine can stay clean. Simple as that.

Take a look at your track ball. I garentee its not as clean as it was you took it out of its case for the first time. The tape will help it stay clean, if by only a little bit.

NJB,

In your anger, you misread. I didn't say you couldn't/shouldn't post. I basically asked you to stop thread crapping and treating others poorly.

I read it perfectly.
You are entitled to your opinion, and you added nothing to this thread.
Thank you.

I think it is very unusual to accuse a moderator of thread crapping and treating others poorly.

You are *way* out of bounds of this one.
