Default Movies disappearing from my Micro SD card

Please Login to Remove!

I notice that some (not all) the movies I've put on my 16Gb SanDisk micro SD card are not visible (and therefore not playable) when I go into Media-->Videos on my BB 8900. I know there are there, because when I plug it in to my PC I can see them all on the card. I used to be able to see them all, now I can't. I upgraded to v4.6.1.168 recently, and I'm wondering if that has some issue with the large-capacity cards. Anyone else having this issue?

Well this has happen to me numerous amount of times. What I do is just go to media and push menu(Blackberry key) and hit explore and go to media card and then blackberry and your videos. You will see it there. That's how I seen mine. But they still won't show up the regular way.

Hey -- that works -- thanks a million! I wonder why it happens like that. If I knew, I could put any of the films that are rated over 16s in the section that doesn't come up in "videos" automatically, so that when my 8-year old god-daughter is messing with my Blackberry she doesn't come across something unsuitable.

Can you please tell what is the format of the videos which are NOT coming up on your device? 8900 supports DivX, XviD (MPEG4 Advance Simple Profile), H.263, WMV3.

So this is a bug in OS .168/.174? These are beta OS's right? Maybe that will be fixed down the road, doesn't happen with mine.

Thanks Raja. The files I'm taking about are mostly avi files. But most of the ones that are showing up are avi files too. I use Blackberry Video Creator to reduce the file sizes and convert them to avi for BlackBerry. Some of these are showing up, some of them aren't. I can now play them all by sing the explore function. Some of the ones that ARE showing up are ones in formats I can't play, such as mpg files. I'd love to know how I'm doing it -- because then I'd "hide" all the 12+ movies and tv series so that they didn't come up simply by going to "videos".

Ha -- if it's a bug it serves me right for downloading each new version as soon as I can!

Hey, managed to install .174 -- and the problem remains! Some of the movies I'm comfortable with my niece (Disney, etc) seeing are not visible by clicking 'videos' and I can only find them by using the 'explore' function, some of the stuff I don't want her to see (anything with a 12+ rating) is showing up, and I can't figure out a way to hide it.

If there are any RIM developers out there...a very useful facility for future versions of the OS would be to have a password-protected section within the system, where you can put sensitive business documents, bank statements, not-for-kids movies or tv series, et cetera.

The main thing is that these files and their filenames would only show up on a search, or through the navigation system, if the password-protected folder had already been unlocked.

That way if you lose your Blackberry, or if someone borrows it off your desk at work before the automatic password-lock kicks in, they don't automatically have access to your letter to the bank manager, Sopranos videos, or whatever.

But...for all I know there may be technical reasons why this would be more complicated/costly than I imagine.

this happened to me the other day.

I noticed a few of my movies disappeared. Blackberry wouldn't display it, but they were still on the card.

What did i do? Restarting the phone didn't work. I copied all the phones onto the computer. Reformated the card in the blackberry and loaded the files back on.

As a programmer I will make an educated guess that the developers use a filter to show movies in this directory to avoid showing 'unplayable' files such as .docs etc. It appears that the BB can play a lot more than they say it can. For example stuff I do on my Mac as .m4v play perfectly and are shown on the BB site to be incompatible as H.264. So I suggest guys that the developers hide extensions the BB allegedly can't play such as AVIs (which it can play).

A bit weird I know as they can play XVid but this seems the only logical solution. The good thing is it's easy to explore and even better.. they play almost anything now!

And as for a wishlist - Auto Answer would be great for us Bluetooth car people!!
