Default NEXTEL & GSM CELL PHONE SIM CARD CONTACT COPY DEVICE

Please Login to Remove!

For Peeps that needs information regarding phonebook/contact list transfer... this might help...

How does it work?

Contact Copier will only copy contact information from one SIM card to another SIM card. Some GSM SIM-based phones store contacts in the phone’s memory rather than the phone’s SIM card. Contacts stored in the phone’s memory will not be copied when using Contact Copier. To ensure that all your contacts are transferred successfully, please make sure that your contacts are stored on your phone’s SIM card. Many GSM phones allow you to easily move all the contacts in the phone’s memory over to the phone’s SIM card in a few easy steps. Once this is done, you are ready to use the Contact Copier. For additional information, please consult your current GSM phone’s User’s Guide.

btw I found this on ebay....
but I think you can purchase it straight from NEXTEL... if you want a trusted device...

It wont work for you. Dont waste your money. The addresses are not stored on the sim card in the BB. They are stored in actual memory so you are out of luck there isnt an easy way to transfer the contacts to the BB I used iden phone book then exported to a cvs file then imported to outlook

This actually might work the way that chinesecatt needs it to.
Some GSM phones do store the contacts on the SIM card. This device would copy the contents of one card to the other.
Then, you can import the info from the SIM card to the contacts database on the Blackberry.

Its possible they didnt understand not all sales people do. As a matter of fact most sales people dont have a clue about Blackberrys same way CS doesnt. I have learned more fromthis forum and others than i ever did from CS. Most of the time CS didnt know that what i was doing was even possible.

if I recall my cellphone history properly the addition of the sim card to nextel (iden) phones was to make them so they could eventually roam on a GSM network for worldwide use, although as iDen is slowly dying via the Sprint merger, it wasn't practical for follow through.

Nextel phones, simply by virtue of their design won't use the SIM. A Nextel assumes that your contact in your address book will have two numbers: phone and direct connect. Given that a SIM is incapable of handling something so complex, there's no reason to allow an iDEN phone to copy all to SIM. I've never seen one that can, although that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Newbie post

I don't think I quite follow this conversation/thread, but it looks like it does deal with the issue I have:

I want to transfer my phone book from my Nokia 6310i to my new Blackberry 7290. I have already backed the data onto my PC using Nokia PC Suite 4. It doesn't look like it will allow me to export to a CSV or other. This leaves me using the SIM chip to transfer the data. I'll need to ensure that the data is actually on the SIM chip, which I will do Monday when I get back to the office. (the old phone is there) Will the Blackberry then detect the data, or do I have to do something to transfer it into the unit's memory?

Thanks.

I have just confirmed and will answer the question as to how to transfer the contacts from an iden phone to the 7520 (or probably any BB with compatible SIM).

1) Download Iden Phonebook Manager (25.3MB) and back up the phonebook from the SIM of the iden phone to your computer.

2) Take the SIM for your Blackberry and put it into the iden phone. Restore the backup to the iden phone (which contains the Blackberry SIM) but be sure not to overwrite the current data (will be an option when restoring).

3) Remove SIM from iden phone and place back in blackberry. Then go to your address book and click the track-wheel. Select SIM Phonebook and the list of entries will be displayed. Click the track-wheel and select Copy All to Phonebook.

Default phonebooks to 7520

You can use the SIM card swapper thing shown in the first post to transfer contacts on to a BB 7520 HOWEVER you first must get your contacts onto a 32K sim card, not the 128K/64K sim like the newer phone have. This is one of the coolest features that was released with the new software!
You just insert 32K sim into BB
Click the trackwheel in on the addressbook, scroll down and select SIM phonebook, once the sim phonebook has completed transferring click the trackwheel in again and choose 'copy all to address book' and boom your contacts are in your BB.

Just a bit of info.....

It works both ways. You can copy from and to the SIM with latest BB OS.

You can send to sim card from BB 1 contact at a time. From the address book, highlight a name, click the trackwheel and the very top option is copy to sim. Sucks because it is 1 at a time.

After you choose SIM phonebook and the contacts are down transferring, click the trackwheel in again and select 'copy all to address book' this does them all at once. When going from a SIM to a BB.
I did not know you could send contacts one by one to the BB...THANKS
