I have a BlackBerry Curve 8320 and when I either put the battery in or leave it out and plug in the USB cable or power cord it just flashes a red light. I can not get the computer to recognize anything. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Is the battery charged at all?

First, try another charged battery if you have one, or let this one charge a few hours, then remove the battery and replace to reboot. If it still flashes the LED red and does not boot after a few minutes, post back here.

I had it off the charger all night and it's been on the charger for over 4 hours now and still nothing. I don't have a spare battery on me but I'm going to see if I can borrow someones to test it with before buying a replacement battery.

Well I put in another battery and it is still doing the same thing. The battery that I had powered up another device just fine.

Then you have a dead BB, and 95% of them are recoverable using JL_cmder.

This one is in the lucky 5% that is not recoverable. I have been trying that method a few times thoughout the day with no luck. The computer does not recognize it at all no matter what I try.

I have seen it take up to 20 tries before it works,.. keep trying.

A user just this weekend told me it took 15 attempts before it connected. Try with the battery in AND then with the battery out.

Still not a thing, been messing with it all day long. I tried on different computers also and it does not even make the sound it normally makes when plugging a USB device in. Maybe if I toss it around a bit then it will kick on, LOL, J/K of course.

Has it ever had any water or liquid damage?

What does the moisture indicator sticker inside the battery compartment appear as? The small white 1/8" sticker above the battery, on the housing?

I don't see the sticker but I know what your talking about. This is a test unit provided by RIM so who knows where it has all been but no water has been near it since I've been using this device.

ah, I wonder if they disabled the PIN on the device?

But it could still have moisture damage and not having been anywhere near water, although I am just guessing at that, it very well could be something else.

So, in the past, did this device have a PIN?

Yes it did have a PIN. I had it on our BES and it worked perfect up until last night. I got off the phone and after that it went out.

I am betting if the red LED is blinking, the BB is not bricked.

Keep trying JL_cmder and other other method as well.

I have been giving it a shot every now and then and JL_Cmder keeps saying unable to open port no matter what I try. If for some reason I get it to kick on I'll post on here. It does flash red once then 3 quick flashes so maybe that's some type of code to figure out what it is.

So, this "flashing light" scenario has happened to me several times on my 8800c and the way I'm able to fix it is by the following process:
- remove the SIM card, MicroSD (this seems to be the culprit), and battery.
- let it sit for a minute
- only insert the battery and let it fully boot
- power it off
- put the battery, SIM, and MicroSD card back in
- let it boot normally

Hopefully this helps... usually I get into the "flashing light" scenario when I've made changes to my account and/or recently dropped my phone. Honestly, I've never been able to completely put my finger on it and not sure if all the steps above are necessary but it seems to do the trick every time.

1st method didn't work for me. The 2nd method seems to be working up until the wait for device initialization step. I guess since it does not boot on, it doesn't let it complete the reflash!
