Hello All. I just found this forum after owning my 2 Blackberry 8320 Curve phones for about six months. Just recently I started experiencing hourglassing, random reboots and I have always had uma issues. I thought maybe it was something with the Tmobile network that would get worked out but it appears to be phone related. Both phones are running OS v4.2 and I just upgraded the Desktop Messenger to 4.7 After reading many posts with successful OS upgrades I thought it was time for me to upgrade also. I don't use any of the phones apps and or internet access. I just use it to sync with Outlook on my PC. Very basic, I know. I want to upgrade for stability and also to be able to load the newer custom themes to my phone.

Should I upgrade the OS myself since my handsets are still warranted through Tmobile? Since it is withing the one year warranty I thought about contacting them for replacements. They have always been good about that in the past with my other Motorola phones which also had early OS issues.

I attempted to upgrade one of them but got stuck after running the loader.exe file. It said that this OS was not compatible with my berry even though it was the correct one (8320). So no changes were made. Would upgrading the OS myself invalidate my warranty?

Any help is appreciated.

Upgrading the software will not void the warranty on the device as long as you are installing the carrier supported OS. T-Mobile already supports. It is strongly advised that a user NOT install an OS that is not supported by T-Mobile unless user is very confident doing so. If some functionality is lost, a user can always downgrade their BB OS.

T-Mobile has released 4.5.0.81. Look here TMobile BBUpgrade

4.5.0.110 is released by AT&T. Remember one thing.. Handheld software is always device dependent and not carrier specific. It is absolutely no harm to upgrade to the latest OS available for curve 8320. Also as I said previously you can downgrade to carrier OS in case of any issues.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded and installed that Tmobile OS update on both of my 8320s and they are working great so far. I have installed new 4.5 themes as well.

It is good to know that the carriers released new OS updates. Far different from my Motorola phones of the past (v300, v3 RAZR) that I had to manually update their OS through some pretty sketchy software

Blackberry Desktop Messenger makes it pretty easy. I do wish there was a way to manually navigate the Blackberry files with the ability to delete any unused items to free up storage space and potentially make it a bit faster. I used to do this with my Motorola phones and it worked really well. I would also like the ability to remove programs that the DM cannot remove.
