Default i can't find this app anywhere

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys!

I'm new here. I have a blackberry 8900 curve At&t...

Here's my dilemma. I have "2" phone numbers coming into my 8900. I have my reg personal line and i have my business line forwarded to the 8900 as well.

I'm looking for an app that will distinguish which line the phone numbers are coming in on.

For example if the caller is calling on my personal line everything would remain normal, but if they called my business line i would like the color of the callers phone number to show up in RED or something. This way i will know how to answer my phone...It doesn't matter how they're differentiated, but before i answer the phone I'd like to know if its a friend calling or a business contact.

I hope i made sense. thanks in advance for any advice...

I'm not even sure there's any way to do that. The forwarded number should show the number of the person who's calling so it would look like a direct call either way.

But there could be some hidden tone or something. If you find an app somewhere, post back. I'm thinking there may not be much help here since there was just a similar discussion about Google Voice calls and no one chimed in with an app to deal with it.

It depends on the type of forwarding you are using. Some services forward the actual call where as some simply patch the call in. Forwarded calls will appear as if they called you direct, patched calls will appear to be calls from the phone you forwarded from. Most services these days are using actually forwarded calls since patched calls will continue to charge to the number origianlly called which often results in paying twice for the same call.

Anyway...just set an exception in your profile and add all your typical business line contacts to that exception and pick a ringtone that alerts you that it's a business call.

How can I recommend this feature to an app developer? I'm sure it can be developed pretty quickly and would be of great use to businesses and/or public. With this feature we would eliminate the need for "2" cell phones on your person.

Please do not double post. One is enough.

I thought this was something that would be enabled at the carrier level, not the device/app level. Personally, I like the idea of a ringtone for business customers calling on the forwarded number.

Prior to posting here on the forum I actually tried to resolve this through at&t's blackberry tech support. They must have had me on hold for 15 minutes while they researched it, but came back with nothing. They recommended the app store. So I searched around on the app store to no avail. I'm hoping a developer can create such an app, it would make things much easier.

I've worked for AT&T for a little over a year and I've heard nothing about how you would distinguish the two other than like a previous poster has said about changing the ringtone. As far as someone you don't know calling into the business line... you're out of luck I suppose.

It just sounds like a feature of Caller ID to me.

The only info we have access to is the number your call is forwarded to if you enable call forwarding on your cell phone, i.e. if you want your cell phone calls forwarded somewhere, who is your business line through? You may want to talk to the business line provider to see if they have anything?

With all the new brilliant apps for BB's i cant understand why this simple feature is something someone else hasn't thought of already...I would assume this would have been one of the 1st apps created for businesses, seems like a no-brainer, but nothing yet.

Hopefully this thread isn't the end of it, someone out there has to know how to help me get this created...

It's not really a no brainer, because in order for an app to be created for this the app would have to have a way of determining which line the calls are coming in on but with modern call forwarding the incoming calls are not identified that way. There are phones out there that are capable of having 2 lines assigned to them and perhaps those have apps that differentiate but it's not gonna happen on a BB.
